Who makes their own animated gifs?

I've just started to make my own animated gifs using Ulead Gif Animator 5.

I've been using avi movie clips and everything is ok, but when I view the finished article, it runs in slow motion.

I've read that Internet Explorer cannot read these gifs properly and more often than not slows them down, but Firefox, which I use reads them ok, yet mine still play in slo-mo.

I've got all the settings correct, but to no avail.

I see really good animated gifs online all the time which play at the correct speed.

I was wondering if anyone here makes their own animated gifs from film clips and get the results they expect?

What software do you use to get these results?
