Which Professions Do You Most Distrust?

Obviously not everyone in these professions is untrustworthy so I'm speaking in a general sense

1. Politicians-No explanation needed

2. Media-No explanation needed

3. Lawyers-Almost no different than politicians. They'll say and do whatever they need to do to get their way

4. Bankers-No explanation needed

5. Salesperson-Doesn't matter what kind, if they're trying to sell you something best believe there's some bullshit in there

As a career salesperson, I cannot argue with this list. However, I will say that there is a serious difference between what and how I sell for a living (water filtration, heating and purification equipment) and someone who is slinging time-share condos. Honestly, I feel more like a teacher than a salesperson. My approach is very low-key....no pressure and totally based upon attempting to educate and satisfy what is important to the customer. So, not all salespeople can be lumped together. Still, I can totally relate to the stigma of mistrust that is attached to the career category. Glad to see I'm not being ranked ahead of lawyers, bankers or politicians. Regardless of the lack of respect for my profession in general, it has been good to me and has enabled me and my family to enjoy a very good living over the years so for that I am very grateful.

I would also add that auto mechanics and tradesmen/contractors in general should be included somewhere within the top 5 as well.

You beat me to Auto Mechanics, Jagger. :1orglaugh
And yes, certainly Tradesmen as in featuring Electronics Repair and ANY kind of repair, be it Appliance Repair, Roofers, Plumbers, Etc. :yesyes:
They should wear masks!  :rofl2:

I have a general mistrust of everyone, particularly everyone in positions of authority, so maybe I'm not the best one to ask.

However, I will say that the examples cited so far seem to be dead-on.

..and you can't win with auto mechanics. If you find a good one, stick with them.

Well --- Car Salespersons ... Slithering Snakes. :cussing:
They need to retire their ridiculous, annoying, nauseating 3000-year old ruse of the ole back & forth discussions between the Salesperson and their Manager whereby supposedly the Salesperson is really looking out for the customer's best interest to get them the best deal. Oh yeah. Right. That's believable. :rofl2:

I've envisioned in my head asking the Car Salesperson early on, "Okay, how many years have you been in this business? So you KNOW your job very well then, do you? Therefore you shouldn't need someone else, like say ... your Manager to step in and do your job for you, right? I SHOULD be able to deal with YOU and only YOU from beginning to end, shouldn't I? If not, why do I need YOU for? Why don't I just avoid the Middle Man and deal with your Manager from the start?" :1orglaugh

With Auto Mechanics, the only way you'll win is if you're lucky enough to have one in the family whom you know won't rip you off. For many years I had the luxury of that my dad was as good an Auto Mechanic as they got. However, that was back in the old school era ... the pre-computer, pre-fuel injection and pre-1 million sensors & gadgets days. With that and his age, well, he still fixes SOME problems, but he definitely has his limits now.

I've heard that a lot of the old-school car salesmen are pissed off and being replaced by a "new breed" that doesn't pull that shit. Apparently, people are wising up-and searching online - for information that tells how to get the best deal. Also, some of them are spilling the "tricks of the trade"...anonymously, of course.

With Auto Mechanics, the only way you'll win is if you're lucky enough to have one in the family whom you know won't rip you off.

Here's what I hate: If you take your car to a shop, and tell them exactly what is wrong, they'll fuck you, because you're coming across as a "know-it-all" (Of course I know, it's my fucking car.) If you take it and say "I have no idea what's wrong, just fix it." - they'll fuck you. It's not so much me, I can deal with them.. I know my shit, to a point, it's the fact that they'll gleefully fuck over anyone who doesn't know cars....like my mom.

Used car salesman.

New car salesman.

Politicians of all levels.

Lawyers.

Infomercial host (although they can at least be hilarious).

Sadly pretty much all managers of almost any business anymore, let alone somebody in middle management or even worse on the board of directors.

Veterinarians.

Stock brokers, brokerage firms, and definitely hedge fund managers. Basically anybody that amounts to being nothing more than a "financial engineer" that just moves money around to make more money and doesn't actually fundamentally create something. They are a big part of what's wrong with this world.

(Most business executives also basically fit into the above anymore de facto. It's not like you can't replace most of them with somebody that could do just as good of a job for about 1/100 the cost.)

I don't do them, but drug dealers have to be on this list also. At least that industry doesn't try to hide it's bad side as small consolation as it is.

People in porn production. (just being honest) Not that there isn't honest or alright people in the industry, but there are enough scumbags in it that it deserves it's greater shady reputation over most industries to a large degree.

People that produce mainstream entertainment while we are at it. Many of them somehow got much more socially acceptable while sometimes only being slightly less shady than the people in porn.

Call center representatives and customer service people.

Telecommunication company technicians.

Law enforcement to a large degree. (I hate to say it, and there are good people in it, but they also have largely built and deserve the dislike a lot of people have for them.)

People that work for intelligence agencies, even our own...actually make that especially our own.

Clowns.

Carnies.

People that make and sell nutritional supplements.

Most charities.

Religious groups.

Anytime there is an exchange of money someone is getting fucked. My dad told me a long time ago, "Son, if I have it, it ain't worth shit. If someone else has it, it's worth a damn fortune."; Wise words of warning.
