Animals are good and innocent. Even when they are violent there usually is an explanation. When people are sadistic and take joy in harming others that is evil which is definitely human. I wouldn’t elevate them by referring to them as animals.

I think it has lot to do with Socratic notions I believed The Greeks delinated a line between man and nature. Man being structured and Civilizing while nature is untamed, unruly, brutish and in need of dominion The fact you can call something an animal elevate yourself from your opposition. It puts you at advantage because people share this bias towards man and civilization being distinct from nature.
When nortorus figures are called animals, it a shorthand of calling for justice or vengence. Like this mf is a animal. And an animal you put down. It a mob mentality of maintain social norms. Whether its mass mudering tyrant, a mass shooter, or pedo. Calling them an animals is judgment and thumbs up for execution.
