What's the biggest derby in the world?

Since the old firm game is in just over an hour, it made me thing of this.

Mine would be

Celtic vs Rangers
Barcelona vs Real Madrid
Galatasary vs Fenerbahce
Ac Milan vs Inter Milan.
West ham vs Millwall

This link has a good link with good videos showing the atmosphere

The atmosphere amongst Celtic fans at the full-time whistle shows how important this derby match is.

What would you say is the fiercest derby you know of? The rivalry with the best atmosphere.

As an American, I'd have to say the Kentucky Derby but I have a feeling this ain't about horseracing.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid and Galatasary vs Fenerbahce are no real derbies. Real derbies are two teams from the same city compeating. And the nicest of them all is KV Mechelen vs Racing Mechelen, believe me. Two small local Belgian teams, but always a real battle as in the good old days.

Oh OK....Cardinals/Cubs or Cowboys/Redskins. Dolphins/Jets back in the old days. Not from same city but there isn't a whole lot of that in the USA.

A short definition of what i'm talking about

In many countries the term local derby, or simply just derby (pronounced in British English as 'dar-bee' /dɑːbɪ/ and as 'der-bee' /dɚbɪ/ in North American English) means a sporting fixture between two, generally local, rivals, particularly in association football.

A sports match between local rival teams

The Kentucky Fucking Derby is the biggest derby in the world. End of story.

And if you're talking about rivalry games, people are going to choose the games that mean the most to them in their specific area of the country. For me, it's Purdue and Indiana. We've been playing football against each other since 1891 (Purdue leads the series 70-37). In basketball, both teams lead the Big Ten with the most conference titles (Purdue at 22, IU at 20). And even though the Hoosiers have five national championships, the Boilermakers still lead the overall head-to-head series 112-84.

People in other parts of the US would pick a different rivalry. It's all about your geographic location.

Side note: Cubs and Cardinals is probably the biggest professional rivalry for me.

No mention of Yankees vs. Red Sox? Go sit in the corner. :nono:
I just listed football. You can list baseball, American football etc. I just don't know about these sports

I agree with the Barcelona Real Madrid one. But Isn't Galatasary vs Fenerbahce an Istanbul derby. I think both teams are from there.

I looked it up and you are right bigman. I thought that Fenerbahce was from outside Istanbul, but it seems to be in the Istanbul area. Not really in the city, but in the suburbs very nearby. Guess you can call that one a real derby after all indeed.

IF any one isn't doing anything in 25 minutes i'll give you a link to the Celtic vs Rangers match. Hopefully it is pretty good.

For the Americans and Canadians, it may give you a chance to see what football is all about. The atmosphere should be pretty good too.
So give it a watch

I'm shiting myself. I'm that nervous

Thanks for the link bigman, really enjoyed the match!
Remarkable: Healy didn't get a red card for that attack, in Belgium he surely wouldn't have got just yellow for that one. Anyway, Celtic back were they belong now, at the top of the charts. Half of November they were 15 points behind...
