What Language Should You Learn?

I am determined to learn the official Chinese language, what most Beijing Chinese speak.

The only reason is in order to make some money in international trade, I have to understand and speak the most important language of the people I deal with. (I plan to go there and see if there is any business opportunities for importing stuff back to N.America)

I do not know if 2-3 months is enough to learn the language. :wave:

I haven't got the patience to learn a new language, especially when I feel I don't really have a reason for it...

Frisian - a very beautiful and interesting language (by the way, the closest relative to English), the use of which gets very limited. Most Frisians admit that they are not able to write in their native language and write only in Dutch. Allegedly less than 2% of them can write in Frisian well and also the number of speakers seems to go down. Of course, I have a weakness for minor languages...

I don't know where in Europe you live, but there are tons of Colombians living in Europe. The UK, Spain, Italy and Germany have large Colombian populations. Your best bet is Spain. Madrid, Barcelona, Canary Islands. I'll introduce you to some Colombian mamacitas myself next time I'm going to IBIZA.

I'm learning a little Spanish atm because some bureaucrat decided that I can't be an engineer until I study 2 semesters of a foreign language. I would like to learn more as it's a valuable skill, but can't realistically see myself devoting the time and effort.

On a side note, I had a crazy high school english teacher who was so nuts about languages he learned a new language-to the point of fluency-within a year or less. At the time I knew him he'd already run out of modern languages and was starting to learn ancient ones that nobody even uses anymore. That's fanaticism.
