What is the nicest thing a stranger has done for you?

I was 17 and had my son who was maybe 5 or 6 months old in his carrier. I lived in downtown LA and was taking the bus back to the valley to see my mom. that's 3 buses and about 3 1/2 hours. I had to walk about a mile when I got off the bus to her house. she wasn't answering her phone so she couldn't come pick me up. I was standing at the light waiting to cross Devonshire when this man who was waiting also looked at me and smiled. He asked how old my son was and then how I was. I looked VERY young then. I mean like I was 12 years old. When I told him 17 he handed me $300 and walked away. I just stood there not knowing what to say other than thank you over and over. He waved over his shoulder and told me to spend it on my son, which I did. I bought him a crib and some clothes and a months worth of diapers. That was like someone handing me 10,000 to this day I look for that guy when I'm in the valley.

this is when my son was almost 2 so imagine what I looked like 2 years earlier!

During my first week of work at the casino I was giving a man change for a hundred (he wanted 20's) but for some reason I wasn't paying attention and instead of giving him 5 twenties I handed him 5 hundred dollar bills! He immediately corrected me and handed me back the money. The worst part was I didn't even notice and if it wasn't for this guy being so honest and nice I wouldn't have my job today.. A 500 dollar variance is 450 dollars over firing status.

WHOA! I hope that guy won big at the tables. Glad you didn't lose your job!

Yeah. plus she found my wallet so I was being polite. I would've done the same thing if you were the one to bring back my wallet with everything intact.

Well you just proved my point. You're just polite to young sex people. :D :shy: :o

But would you've done if let's say some old fat man like Petra came to your door?! :D

I lost my wallet yesterday I had about $300 in cash, a Mastercard, and few other things so about 2 hours later this sweet 21 year old girl knocked on my door to give it back to me with everything there. So I invited her in because I was so happy, I made coffee and brought out some cookies and we talked for about an hour.

Yeah, that sounds like the beginning of a porn flick...

I wouldn't care if it was Fat Bastard from Austin Powers who brought back my wallet or if it was you, Petra, or anybody else they would've gotten the same treatment that I gave her but probably less flirty.

I'm not lying, there is no point for me to lie. There is nothing for me to gain by lying. So what, I lost my wallet at a Wal-Mart and someone who was nice drove it back to me and the polite thing to do is invite them in. What's so unbelievable about that? Like I said to Maley, I would care if a guy dropped it off or anybody did, as long everything was there I would've invited them in for coffee because it's the polite thing to to do. If anything I exaggerated the period of time we talked. I don't care if you send me neg rep.

I once bought an expensive turntable from a guy across the country from me. It arrived with a bent main bearing (wasn't his fault). He offered to pay for a replacement immediately. I searched for a replacement but without success. The manufacture was closed for a couple of weeks but I had sent them an e-mail. I posted my dilemma on a couple of audio forums and within 24 hours, a shop owner in California asked for my address so he could send me one for free! This is a $500.00 part when available. I offered over and over to pay but it arrived without even shipping charges. Not only that, when the manufacturer opened, they fixed the bent one free of charge too. A twofer!

I'm heading up the Garden State Parkway for Christmas when the toll booth person waves me on. The driver ahead of me paid my toll. Not the biggest kind of act of kindness someone can give but a gesture from someone as much of a stranger as you can find.
