I think some of the best voices in music are some of the non-traditional ones who singing coaches would never teach people to sing that way. These are unique artists who have their own style and hit their own stride. The imperfections with the voice creaking and crackling can be the best parts that convey the real feeling of the song. I enjoy the organic nature of this song and performance.
1967 .. Here's an unedited version of the SDG "Gimme Some Lovin" from Finnish TV. Steve Winwood is doing an awesome job with his voice while singing the song. Muff Winwood's bass riff from his bass guitar is also very good in this live version being supported by Steve's Hammond Organ playing and Pete York's beating of his tom and snare drums.

Here's Fil from Wings of Pegasus with the analysis of the song.

John, you probably know this but Steve Winwood joined Spencer Davis Group when he was 14 years old. He was 19 in the clip you posted. I was a nothing happening dork at 14 who kept getting told I was too fat to play baseball. Stealing porno mags and masturbating were my bread 'n' butter back in those days.
