Walmart, Amazon, Ebay, Sears remove Confederate flag

Momentum to eradicate public displays of the Confederate flag continued to build Tuesday as more retailers and online marketplaces, including Amazon and eBay, joined Walmart to remove rebel-flagged items from their shelves and websites.

After Walmart and its 11,000 stores led the way Monday night by sweeping from shelves any product bearing the Confederate battle flag, retail giants Sears, Amazon and eBay followed suit Tuesday.

Calls to Drop Confederate Emblems Spread Nationwide

Yeah, I was just reading this on CNN. http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/23/politics/business-confederate-flag/index.html

What is everyone's opinion: money or 'morals'? I lean that with big businesses, it really generally comes down to money, but I also think it's hypocritical to think it's only ever ulterior motives for everything. Sometimes people do the 'right' thing for the 'right' reason. Not attempting an argument, but admitting here I think it's a customer thing more than a choice to support a particular group or ideology.

As long as they also ban t-shirts bearing the likeness of dou"che" Guevara, I'm good with it. But it is a part of history and Bill and Hilldebeast Clinton apparently loved that rag, so it has some historical resonance to race baiting idiots.

I don't think it belongs on a flagpole at state buildings.

So, try to erase history, by pushing your ideas on everyone else?

Trying to ban history should be illegal.

It's the Virginia battle flag , not the "Confederate" flag.

Even though the South has adopted the Virginia Battle Falg as a symbol.

The flag had 13 stars, for the thirteen states in the Confederacy. This flag was first used in battle in December 1861. Being a new flag, different from the United States flag, it gained widespread acceptance and allegiance among the Confederate soldiers, and population in general. The flag is referred to as the Confederate battle flag, and as the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia.

It should be noted, however, that there were many different confederate battle flags used at different times, and by different regiments in the war.

The Flag of the Army of Northern Virgina was never officially adopted by the Confederacy or any of it's member states and it wasn't until after the war that the flag was popularized after being adopted by the Ku Klux Klan. Supporters of the flag can't win this argument, try to make it about "states rights" and then the question become "what rights"? Of course everyone knows what right the South was about to lose that was the impetus for war, all other factors were peripheral to the issue of slavery.

Any claim made that this flag represented Southern Heritage and not Hate lost it's legitimacy the moment the Zolfster saw it hanging up at 2 Neo Nazi compounds....In Germany and the Fucking Netherlands!

Now Zolf is no scientist but he is pretty sure that Germany and the Netherlands had nothing to do with the Confederate States of America

One would think that any inappropriate use of the flag by these hate group butt pirates would have immediately resulted in a massive outcry from those who claim the flag doesn't represent hate

However, not so much as a mouse fart from flag supporters

Zolf says fuck everyone who supports that flag and their mothers

^ no offense, but who the fuck cares about something that happens in germany or the netherlands? That's irrelevant.

I'm all for states rights, but like xfire said, it comes down to slavery. The confederacy WAS. FOR. SLAVERY. So yeah, take down their fucking flags.

For the EMPEROR!!
What I want to know is, what does this mean for the (god forbid) the next Dukes of Hazard movie?

The poor ol' General Lee just won't look the same.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.

The relevance is, that in a lot of European countries the Swastika is illegal, so Neo Nazi's use the Confederate flag as a replacement. We know what they stand for, likewise what the Swastika means, so their use of the Confederate flag is obvious.

What I meant was why would flag supporters over here know that some neo nazis in germany or the netherlands were using it let alone care enough for there to be a "massive outcry?" If it ain't football or NASCAR related, chances are we don't give two shits.

Besides, the confederate flag has been a contentious symbol and used by the Klan over here way before some assless-chaps-wearing euro skinheads decided to sieg heil it.

I'm in favor of it not being flown at government buildings.
But these wider bannings strike me as overkill.

I don't think it belongs on a flagpole at state buildings.

I would concur with these viewpoints. Other entities that choose to ban it do so of their own volition. If my neighbor wants to fly to it in his front yard or put it on a bumper sticker on his truck (and, believe me, where I live there are plenty who probably do), let him have at it. In fact, a wider ban mandated by law would be unconstitutional.

Agreed. I hope this is over-turned soon, and they have to start saling them again.

That isn't what I meant and you know it. No private business can be forced to sell something if they choose not to. Likewise, the government cannot prevent them from selling rebel flags if they so desire. Their decision not to is their own, not the government's. The law can, however, dictate what is and is not allowed to be displayed on public property. You'll still be able to fly the stars & bars at your trailer, Will. You just won't see them flown over the state capitol.

As a southern boy born and bred I think I am qualified to speak on this. I have never displayed the flag. The flag would not exist if we're not for misguided and inhumane acts and law perpetrated on other human beings.

Does the flag hold represent a source of pride for some southerners? Of course. There are those that lost family members during the bloodiest American war.

It should not be endorsed by a government that represents all people and not on display to appease those that think of it as their heritage. My southern heritage is securely grounded in holding the door open for strangers following me into the store. Pimento cheese sandwiches, sweet tea and mint julips, pit cooked barbeque and cute gals with a southern drawl. I don't need no fucking flag to remind why I am proud of my heritage.

You're wrong. Also, I don't live in a trailer.

That's pretty good. Interesting that I tried to find something (anything in fact) to corroborate the claims made by the individual in that very impressive video (something you made, perhaps? :dunno:) but there wasn't single backup source that I could locate. Imagine that!

Also, lighten up about the obvious trailer joke. Everyone here knows that you're institutionalized so no one took that little jab seriously at all, believe me.
