virus and firewall protection?

hello.
last week my computer crashed and i had to reformat. i was running mcafee virus protection before. i am not exactly computer savvy so i was wondering if anyone could help me out. my question is which programs i should run, like mcafee or norton, or any others and where i can go to get them? should i go out and buy mcafee or nortons or can i get it online? also i would like any other protection software that would protect my computer. thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. please give a little detail as i am not that knowledgable when it comes to computers.

it's the same thing. In my opinion you can better do it online. In the store you always get an older version. At least you have to update you DAT files then. In some other cases you have to upgrade McAfee itself
