I don't think there's any question here but others may disagree.

Van Helsing!

Or sorry, Van Halen minus the screeching to not answer the question.

uh-oh. the most heated of all rock debates.

i for one dont think they can be compared. two different styles.where van halen is more straight up rock, van hagar is a more melodic style. both effective. both very much listenable. i grew up on van hagar. i was 4 when van halen split, so i never saw them together anywhere. i still listened to van halen, but van hagar is what i knew.

this is why i cant vote.

Like "Iamforever" said...this is a heated one. Growing up listening to both...I can't really post an answer...but I will say I am partial to many songs by Roth and Hagar alike. And...God help me, but Eddie Van Halen is one of the biggest women in rock. First he pisses on Roth, then Hagar...then Michael Anthony. He is amazing at what he does NO DOUBT, but please...will you be going anytime soon to see his son on bass and a Gary Sharone replacement. No. When looking at the current state of Van Halen (even over the past few years) Id be hard pressed to say I'd love to have Van Halen or Van Hagar back to its previous glory.

thats right. van halen/hagar will never be relevant to music anymore. at least with new material. the old stuff from both will always live on. :glugglug:

Ya know if they would have changed their name to something else when Hagar came on (like Rage Against The Machine changed to Audioslave when they took on Chris Cornell) ....wait a minute.....who am I trying to kid? Van Halen died after Dave was gone....end of story! :2 cents:

Ya know I'm not going to be very popular with this answer but I'll be honest. I never really liked any version of Van Halen.
