Is somewhere outhere.
Quite a hard one to call.Sounds like something the Nazis would
do - who would be a soldier in this day in age :dunno:

They train these boys to kill. Put them in situations that probably will damage their minds. Then punish them when they do what they have been brainwashed to do...

What a fucked up world.

Oh this should be a "fun" thread!

Where do you draw the line between a justified killing and a homicide? Many times soldiers are charged with homicide when they kill someone to defend their unit, and other times they're commended for going trigger-happy on enemy soldiers who are obviously at a disadvantage. :dunno:

Killing a person who poses no imminent threat to you is murder.

In combat, killing someone who has surrendered, is not a threat to your strategic objective or a non combatant civilian is murder.

unless they are brown... or jews, if you mean about 65 years ago.

i know, with the exception of one (possibly two) of you, you will all understand that that was sarcasm.

The (U.S.) Military trains Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines to accomplish military objectives that in many cases involve killing. The U.S. military doesn't train individuals to be murderers.

whats really sad is we are paying 1.8 billion dollars per week to keep troops in iraq.......i cant imagine why our country is going backwards?? add that up just for 1 year...and tell me how the hell we can do this before we are living in grass huts??who knows what we will be eating??when i figure...looks like in years to come...the cats outside may start looking like supper:thefinger

Actually, I (for once) wasn't trying to be sarcastic. I'm just no longer sure where the line that divides service to your country and sadistic killing falls anymore.

Shooting someone on purpose who is on his knees, blindfolded and with his hands behind his back is a crime no matter where and no matter what the circumstances, because he is either a prisoner or a non-combattant. If the US rather creates psychologically numbed killing machines than educated soldiers, that means they have to live with the results, i.e. cases like these.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
Mayo of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, pleaded guilty to premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit premeditated murder in the proceeding at the U.S. Army's Rose Barracks in southeast Germany.

According to testimony Monday and at previous courts-martial, at least four Iraqis were taken into custody in spring 2007 after an exchange of small arms fire with Mayo's unit.

The Iraqis were taken to the unit's base for questioning and processing, although there was not enough evidence to hold them for attacking the unit. Later that night patrol members took the Iraqis to a remote area and shot them so that they would not be able to attack U.S. forces again, Mayo testified.

"I believe I was acting in self-defense," Mayo said. "I just wanted to take care of my soldiers."

But he admitted that neither he nor his men were in any immediate danger, as the detainees were blindfolded with their hands bound.

He deserves the punishment that he was handed.

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
Convicted of murder in the execution-style slayings of four blindfolded Iraqis.

I'm sure he was concern for his fellow troops.

Just like on South Park when Jimbo tells them they have to yell out, "Look out!, their coming right for us!"

This isn't the worst that has happened. Just so a search and wait for more "revelations" from Iraq.

Look up how many female recruits have been violated on recruiting couches
and no one is saying much on that.

I want to know from all the people somewhat defending these soldiers if the situation had been reversed as in 4 american soldiers had been captured and then shot in cold blood and then the people responsible had been captured would you say well they were just doing what they had been trained/brainwashed to do? I highly doubt it.And lets not forget who is in whose country on the other side of the world on false pretexts to begin with.I feel for the foolish young americans who joined the military but they don't get a pass when they do such. They are in a bad situation fighting an unjust war but as this is a volunteer military they really can't shirk an even larger amount of responsibility then possibly if they had been drafted like in the Vietnam era.

well, nazi warcrimes are well-known, at least here in the free west.

Yep we gave lenghty jail terms or even hung some germans and japanease after WW2 for similar type crimes.

the fact is people get twisted in war, look at the soldiers in vietnam who wore necklaces of ears, but to kill someone who poses 'no immanent threat', as suggested earlier, is murder. the fact that we are willing to send our children to die for corporate interests is an entirely more fucked up matter tho. gotta love the military-industrial complex.
