UK to BLOCK porn access

It's been coming for a while now, and I know most of us will know how to bypass this AgeID porn block, I was just wondering if Freeones will have to get on board with this?
Any general thoughts on it?
I can kind of understand why the UK Government is trying to block out porn, but kids today will easily bypass this.
Ironically the AgeID system is owned by PornHub!

Old news, but yes, stupid news.

Keep in mind, this isn't just about erotica and porn, this is about everything age restricted. Gambling, smokes, drinks, you name it.

We're mostly in "wait and see" mode. The law going into effect keeps getting pushed back. It's now pushed back to June 1st.

As I said in the other thread, the first sites that the BBFC will go after are pornhub, xvideos, xhampster and the big name porn sites (all of the sites pornhub owns like Brazzers, Twistys, etc). I also think UK based sites will probably be forced into it before the rest of the sites.

The really scary thing here is the UK managed to get google on board with blacklisting non compliant sites (there's rumors that it might be a global blacklist, but i think it'll just be country based like germany does) and might actually have influence with Visa/Mastercard. The latter is the most chilling...

So yes, eventually even FreeOnes will probably have to do something but we're going to see if this actually gets going or not before jumping on board.

All pays into the massive backlash bound to happen.

You can only take away liberties as basic for so long.

Look at US prohibition.

In this case, if Labour play their cards right, the conservatives will get burned down to the ground

The truly scary thing here is that we are charging happily towards George Orwell's vision of the future.

I can imagine how they managed to get Google in on things. There's always a lot of talk and a lot of demands by people here to hammer Google for tax avoidance. The token amounts they paid recently were small compared to what they should have paid. Probably in Google's best interests to go along with the scheme and not rock the boat.

While I'm definitely concerned out this, not just from a porn angle, it will be interesting to see what happens when it does finally hit and starts to impact non-porn sites.

1st June? That's good, gives me more time to stock up on the important naked things. :)
I think I'll also start saving a personal list of infrequently visited URL's in a text document.

I know the UK Government has been trying to get this "porn block" in place since 2010. To me it seems like a very difficult thing to implement, but I guess a lot of money has been invested in this now, (especially by Mind Geek), so I think it will have happen.

Is this definite, Petra? I can't see any news stories yet. Everything still saying April 1st...

Sorry, you're right. April 1st. It was supposed to be Jan 1st but it got pushed back. Gut feeling says it will get pushed back again. They JUST released the outline of their vision of the "shopping window" on what's allowed in front of and behind the pay wall late last year so they have to give sites time to comply (well, those who will be complying).

I think they're going to try it for certain, but I think it'll get pushed back a few more times. So far I still haven't seen the outline of the rules about how age verification has to take place. I talked to the folks behind the Mind Geek (Adult Force) version in Vegas at AVN and there still hasn't been much said on this. If it's really as black and white as everyone has been saying the past 2 years (need a way to ID the person, not store their info in a database) then I don't think it should be too hard to build our own solution ourselves.

FreeOnes has a really special challenge nobody who has gotten into the age verification business thought about. Pornhub and the Adult Force sites are all going to use their own product. It costs the site owner about $0.50 per verification. That will get each visitor to those sites. However, if say, FreeOnesLive which is powered by Flirt4Free uses another solution, then that same visitor will have to age verify with their solution. Then if they want to go to say, Nubiles, and they're using another verification service....

It could cost FreeOnes a substantial amount of business if we make someone verify with every single type of verification out there just to get to the free porn. I mean, all the fucking popups from GDPR and the cookie law from several years ago already piss me off as a user... I can't even imagine what the age verification will do.

Net Neutrality says what?

Has nothing to do with net neutrality and everything to do with the government wanting to protect special little snowflakes from "stumbling upon" porn.

The age of letting computers, TVs, mobile phones and tablets baby sit and stand in for parenting has done this... if parents won't parent, the govt has to do it. And I guarantee the USA and Australia are watching with very keen interest on what will go on here and I don't think either will be so adamant that there's no databases of users.

Anything google does doesn’t surprise me.
This is a CIA controlled entity.
How do you spell evil??

Hit the nail right on the head. :coolthumb:

Apparently the BBFC didn't manage to get to the round table that was happening between all of the AV providers.... 300 meters from their office.

I'm seeing inside reports that it's probably not going into effect April 1st. The feelings it it will still happen in April (maybe) but not on the 1st exactly.

Very true :yesyes: As much as Facebook which is also a CIA controlled entity

And if it really is a CIA controlled entity, I guarantee that they're probably bored as shit about my bitching about people leaving their dirty coffee mugs on my desk, Jira, the idiot diabetic nurse at the hospital that's trying to kill me and all my stupid pet memes.

I`m not actually at all worried about this. They`ll probably put Chris Grayling in charge of it. Which means all pay porn sites will probably be made free to all. (Google him if you`re not aware of the award-winning scale of his cock-ups.)
