UK Police body cameras to be used to interview suspects at crime scenes not police stations

"Body-worn cameras are to be used by police to interview suspects at crime scenes rather than police stations, a senior officer has said.

Andy Marsh, the national policing lead for body-worn video (BMV), said he hoped the new trial would lead to "cheaper justice"."

so, in america police are saying they don't want to wear body cameras, it stops them doing their jobs efficiently etc

whereas over here the police are saying let us wear body cameras - it'll help us do our jobs better and provide superior justice

so any ideas which point of view is correct?

I live out in the Wild West Country ...... we've been using camera drones just to try and find some police ........

this is a no-brainer. It protects the cops as much as it does the general public.

If he were wearing a body cam, Officer Wilson would still be employed and there'd be no #blacklivesmatter.

The use of body cams would exonerate more police officers than it would implicate. So why not?

and these europussies would have one less thing to talk about.

well, i agree with this part of your post

so, i find it strange why american police unions, some gop politicians & conservative commentators are against police wearing body cameras

:dunno:

can you cite that?

I agree with you, that's strange.

There's another and morbid aspect too. The [nobabe]body cam[/nobabe] can be the sole witness available to an officer's murder.

thank you.

I don't get that argument against body cameras because they aren't the "be all end all" and they can't capture context or what's beyond the camera's periphery. But they can capture a lot more than not having them at all.

ffs

Blakey is still a fuckwit but I've worn body cameras before and I've seen the effects of compulsory wear. I can't remember which town in California it was, but they did a study and found that excessive force complaints were reduced by 80 percent after issuing cameras. My style of enforcement didn't change and my arrest rate remained about the same, but once the muckrakers and criminal mutts out there realized that their heavily edited cell phone videos were going to be trumped at the source, they stopped trying to catch cops doing something they perceived as wrong.
