It is likely that you might have witnessed from my countup/countdown threads, that I'm somewhat of a mathematician, but the question of how rep is calculated still leaves me confused, and in search of answers. Is rep actually calculated, or is it just a completely random selection of numbers? Is there anything remotely rational about the points sytem? and what's the deal with rep power/rep points total?

Your own rep power divided by 100 = the amount of rep power that gets added to the person you repped.
I think.

multiply your area code by your zip code and divide by the square root of your age

(for non-US members, use your international country code identifier and postal codes)

this is your initial rep power, then people can add to it or subtract from it with their positive and negative rep

Yup. I tested this theory on feller and it is confirmed.

So you're giving away rep arbitrarily and I'm not the first person to come to mind as a recipient?

:angry face:

Take the number of innings pitched, add up all the walks and hits allowed, divide the number of hits and walks by the innings pitched; multiply this by the objects mass and the square of the speed of light in a vacuum, taken to the factor of value of output in an economy in a particular year - intermediate consumption. However, if you are playing in the match this afternoon move your clothes down onto the lower peg immediately after lunch, before you write your letter home, if you're not getting your hair cut, unless you've got a younger ******* who is going out this weekend as the guest of another boy, in which case, collect his note before lunch, put it in your letter after you've had your hair cut, and make sure he moves your clothes down onto the lower peg for you.
Now, take that total, and divide it by Pi subtracted by the angle of the shadows of a Stonehenge made to scale in inches instead of feet on the Sunday after your seventh birthday. divide that by 42, multiplied by zero, and divide your own reputation power by 100.
It's so simple, I am not sure why this is even a question!
