'Text Rage' Leads to Alleged Brutal Teen Beating

File under "UN-FUCKING-REAL!!!" Part of the girl's skull had to be removed to relieve her brain swelling....

The only contact 15-year-old Wayne Treacy had ever had with 8th grader Josie Lou Ratley before allegedly beating her nearly to death Wednesday was a brief flurry of text messages earlier that day, Florida police say.

Broward County Sheriff Al Lamberti told ABC News that eyewitnesses report Treacy didn't utter a word as he kicked the 15-year-old girl repeatedly with his steel-toed boots, "in the head, soccer style," until a teacher eventually pried him off.

"I think this is probably the first case of 'text rage' we've ever seen. We've had road rage before, but never text rage," said Lamberti.

Ratley was hospitalized with severe head injuries, and Treacy, who confessed the beating to police, has been charged with premeditated attempted murder. A hearing in Fort Lauderdale today will determine whether or not to try Treacy as an adult.

Torn & Frayed.
"Text rage"!?
What the fuck is that? Why do people feel the need to label everything? Call it what it is: A fucked-up punk with anger problems. What could someone possibly say in a text message that could piss someone off so badly that they do something like this?

Answer:Nothing-unless the recipient was fucked in the head to begin with.

Try his sorry ass as an adult, and get this shit overwith. If he wants to act like a (fucked up) adult, then he should be treated as such.

Not that it in any way justifies it, but the circumstances here can and should be taken into account:

The message that allegedly triggered such fury in Treacy, a 9th grader at Deerfield Beach High School who authorities say had no previous record, involved a comment Ratley reportedly made about Treacy's 28 year-old brother, who committed suicide last October.

Treacy found his older brother hanging from a tree outside a local church, said public defender Betsy Benson, who is representing Treacy.

Calling it "premeditated" is going to far. She pushed a very emotional, traumatic button and the kid snapped. I might go a little insane if someone used a subject like that in an argument with me too.

And, frankly, she was a bitch to bring that up in an argument. Did she deserve to be put in a coma for it? No. But she wasn't thinking about the consequences of her words, either.

He told others he was going to "kill" her. That is evidence of premeditation.:2 cents:

i keep seeing horror stories like this. the one kid who was set on fire by a bunch of other kids. the derrion albert story. i just keep wondering why the parents of the perpetrators are not held accountable. this kid is 15, surely he's living at home. they birthed and raised this monster, don't they have to share some responsibility and face repercussions too? am i missing something?

Yep throw the kid in jail...and make it mandatory for potential parents to go through a battery of tests both physical and pyschological before they even conceive! And if they fail sterilize them so they don't produce any offspring. As for me I love my invisble kid, he is great. He lets me sleep in on the weekends, he got a job so he contributes, he's already college educated, he was raised right. Yep I am so proud of my invisible kid he could be president some day.

you're right, lets take the circumstances into account. he told people he was going to kill her. he left one locale and went to her locale specifically to do her harm and follow up on his claim he made about killing her. he nearly succeeded and only failed to succeed cos someone intervened and stopped him. he did not stop on his own, someone else had to stop him even when she was unconscious. your lawyer skills are lacking. hell, i was in business law but i can still see clearly how the authorities can make this charge.

you can't see the premeditation though information was provided in the story but you somehow know everything that was said in the entire text conversation between the victim and the attacker. then you claim she was a bitch. was he a total gentleman in his part of the conversation? do you know he wasnt being an asshole on his end of the conversation? besides the fact that you drew your own conclusions about a text conversation when you don't know everything that was said but only know about one particular statement in the conversation, lets go over what we actually do know:

boy says to acquaintance he is going to kill girl. boy travels to destination where girl is located. girl is beaten unconcious. interloper had to intervene to prevent further beating. girl suffered so severley she was taken to a hospital and operated on. girl never met the attacker in person. girl had never physically or financially taken advantage of attacker. girl said something in a text message he disagreed with. that's what we do know. no where there do i see ANY justification whatsoever. not even the slightest teensiest weensiest bit. do you really see some?

finally, she's a teenage girl. ever met one? ever talk to one? sometimes they say shit. every god damn teen age girl on the god damn planet has said shit before and it frustrates the hell out of us males. they're girls, they do that. it's just one of the things that make girls complicated to us men. but never ever ever is it justification to beat the living shit out of them. now a guy on the other hand, sure i'd beat the shit of him, but i like fighting and i've always had a tendency for violence, hence my amateur boxing in younger years. but i simply wouldnt do that to a girl. come on, no_man, i'm giving the benefit of a doubt that perhaps you didn't really think that comment through before you posted it and don't really mean all of it. she's on a hospital bed from getting a beating worse than any beating you may have received in your life, show some compassion, brother.

1) I never said it was a justification. I said it should be taken into account. It should go into the circumstances of the crime, not the reality of it.

2) A young boy seeing his brother hanging from a rope dead is a traumatic experience. Traumatic enough to cause serious psychological damage. Having that experience used in a degrading, insulting, or mocking way during an argument is easily enough to cause temporary insanity in a teenage boy. Hell, it's probably enough to cause temporary insanity in a grown man.

3) There's a big difference between planning a murder, acquiring a weapon, stalking the victim, and committing the crime with cold indifference to their life, and screaming, "I'm going to kill her!" running to the persons house and beating them with your hands and feet. The crime was committed a matter of minutes from the time of the instigating message. Not nearly enough time for him to cool down, consider his actions, and plan the crime anyway.

Again, let me repeat: he definitely committed a crime and he deserves to be punished. I'm just not sure its reasonable or lawful to punish him like a serial killer when he was clearly provoked in such a disgusting and inflammatory manner.

Well, shouldn't you know the context of what she may have said in that regard and/or what may have prompted it??

Just saying it was referenced doesn't mean much...not that it would mean much under the circumstances anyway...

This guy text HER phone to begin with.

It's an all around bad story. The kid will be locked up for along time, sounds like he was on track for that or worse to begin with...just too bad he had to completely ruin an innocent girl's life first....:(
