Texas carries out 1st execution of 2013

HUNTSVILLE, Texas, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Texas carried out its first execution of 2013 Thursday, putting a man to death for setting his girlfriend on fire almost 20 years ago.

Carl Henry Blue in his last statement told those witnessing his execution to get their own lives "right," The Eagle of Bryan-College Station reported. He died by lethal injection just before 7 p.m. at Huntsville State Prison.

Blue was convicted of killing Carmen Richards-Sanders in 1994 by dousing her with gasoline he had purchased minutes earlier at a gas station next door and setting her on fire. She died 19 days later.

Larene Williams, who was with Richards-Sanders in her College Station apartment, survived with severe burns.

"I'm talking to each and every soul in this building, in this room," Blue said as he lay on a gurney in the execution chamber. "Get your life right. I don't hate nobody, you're doing what you think is your job. God's law is above this law."

Terrella Richards, 41, watched her mother's killer die. She told reporters later she can now move on.

Blue addressed her directly.

"Hi Teri," he said. "I love you, I never meant to hurt your momma. I hope you can forgive me."

His parents also witnessed the execution. He told them he loved them.

Texas has executed almost 500 people since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1976 the death penalty is constitutional, far more than any other state.

i hope this doesnt turn into one of them there death penatly debates,
i really hope not

It shouldn't. The bad guy got what he deserved and end of story. Better than taxpayers footing his bill for the next 35 years while he reads in the library, enjoys three hots and a cot and has it off beeter in prison than he would have outside the joint.

Fuck him... there are consequences to face up to when you take the life of an innocent person. He fully understood the punishment.

And now, the story is over. Except for the family who lost their loved one. I'm sure they are glad to see him dead, versus doing all the things I mentioned above.

Double Post... I executed it! :D

Sammy should be happy that being a chicken-shit cunt isn't a capitol crime. Otherwise they'd strap him to an electric chair and hang him with a lethal injection in his arm while shooting at his cowardly ass.........with 9mm carbines.

The guy seems to have real remorse. Was it necessary to kill a guy who really regrets what he did ? Isn't there another way to deal with this guy ? Isn't there a way to re-adapt him to society ?
When a criminal truly regrets what he did, wouldn't it be better to change his death penalty for a life in prison without parole penalty ?

Well, I would say, how about we douse him with gasoline, set him on fire, and if he lives past 19 days, he goes free.

Hmmm...sound like a plan?

For fucks sake, do you not get how brutal, and absolutely fucked up in the head a person has to be to kill someone like that!?!?!

He set someone on fire and killed them and it takes twenty years to kill him?

This is one reason the death penalty is not the deterrent it could be.

No more lethal injections. Bring back the electric chair.

Stop the long appeals process as well.

I'm from Texas and in Texas we have the death penalty and we use it.

That's right, if you come to Texas and kill somebody, we will kill you back. That's our policy. Ron White

Carl Henry Blue, 48, First Texas Execution Of 2013; Apologizes To Victim's Family In Final Moments

Convicted murderer Carl Henry Blue was put to death Thursday in the first Texas execution of this year, nearly two decades after he poured gasoline on his ex-girlfriend and set her afire. Blue, 48, appeared to accept his fate after the U.S. Supreme Court refused his last appeal.

In 1994, Blue attacked Carmen Richards-Sanders, after finding her with another man in her apartment, located about 100 miles northwest of Houston. Blue also attempted to torch the man, who survived the attack and would go on to testify against Blue at trial, the Associated Press reported.

Blue, who has long asserted that the attack was nothing more than a prank gone wrong, apologized to Terella Richards, his victim’s daughter, while strapped to a gurney for his lethal injection.

“I never meant to hurt your mama,” Blue said. “If I could change that, I would. ... I hope you can forgive me.

Richards didn’t comment after watching the execution, only telling reporters: “I can move on with my life. My journey has ended today.”

Prosecutors were able to win a conviction in the case by proving Blue drank malt liquor and smoked crack behind a convenience store before deciding to fill a 7-Eleven Big Gulp cup with gasoline and walk to his former girlfriend’s house. He was overheard telling Richards-Sanders, “I told you I was going to get you,” before covering 40 percent of her body in flames.

“I did something wrong, and now I’m paying the ultimate justice,” the Daily Mail of London quoted Blue as saying. “It may be crooked justice, but I forgive those people. Hang on. Cowboy up. I’m fixin’ to ride, and Jesus is my vehicle.”

Blue was pronounced dead at 6:56 p.m. local time. Blue leaves behind two children, who were 6 and 7 when he was convicted, and said that despite being locked up, he tried to teach them the importance of staying away from drugs and alcohol, the influence of which Blue blamed his crime on.

Blue wanted to be buried in a cowboy hat and boots, according to the Eagle in Bryan, Texas. “Don’t put me in no suit -- I’m not going to no wedding,” he said.

Yes, he was fucked in his head when he did that, mostly because of drug and alcohol. But, judging by his last words, he's way better now. Enough to apologize to the victim's family for his crime, enough apologize to his mother for not being a good son, enough to accept his fate. And during his prison time he tried to avoid his kids to make the same mistakes he did.
Do you really think this guy is still as fuicked in his head as he was when he burned his girlfriend ? I Don't. I think he's changed, I think he's a better man. I think there was hope for this man...

You can act like you have changed once you know you're going to pay for your crime with your life.

He might have changed some. But, if you murder someone you have to pay for it with your life.

Murder and rape should be instant death penalty.

A psychological evaluation would be able to determine he his regrets are real or fake.

Forget the appeal, forget the lawyers, forget the trial, don't even red him his rights. All this shit takes too much time and cost too much money. Once a murderer has been caught, the cop should shot him imediately.

Don't think of this as an execution but rather an abortion in the 195th trimester. See? All better now.
Let your conscience be assuaged.
