T**rrent Sites

I just wanted to ask how these sites are even allowed to exist legally- such as U*trrent, Bit***nt...etc. How are these legal, when people are dl movies before they're even out on the theater?

But just to answer your question before the thread is closed, no they are not legal but as soon as one site is closed down another pops up, so the authorities really cant do anything about it.

Well most of the guys who run them are going to court every year, i guess it's because these days with technology downloading is the main media used by everyone.

Probablly won't be long till there is really any major crack down on the larger sites.

Technically they don't contain any illegal material. All a [T-word] tracker is, is what boils down to a list of clients that do have the material. It's sort of a legal loophole, at least in some countries.

It's sort of like if I gave you the name of a drug dealer, then I couldn't really be held responsible for engaging in an illegal activity. Of course, in that case you could be tried as an accessory of a crime, but for copy-right law there is not such a stipulation.

They could try to make one and shut all these sites down, but as to how much of a legal case is present for establishing intellectual property in the first place is still very much a debate, and for the time being it doesn't seem likely that new laws will be passed.

The same case could easily be made against Sony, memorex or whoever makes DVD or BluRay burners. Yes the hardware and discs are completely legal. But you can put completely illegal things on them. Illegal porn... software... movies.. etc.

It's one of those dont shoot the messenger kinda things. We can hook you up with a psychiatrist, you're the one that's gotta solve the mental shit in th end, tho.

So while a wtf?wtf?wtf?wtf?wtf?wtf?wtf? is legal.. in the same way as seeing a weed joint on the sidewalk in passing is.. it's when you pick it up and start using it that the legal shit changes.

Those sites are also very much used for legal distribution of material. Linux distributions, game patches, software betas, etc.

There are too many of these sites to completely eradicate them. No way that is ever going to happen.

Although two wrongs don't make a right, many unscrupulous adult websites literally screw members with bogus added charges. You think that you are paying 25 bucks a month for something until you receive your bill and you are charged an extra 60-80 bucks on some BS. I read about this on other forums where people that were screwed by a certain adult website, will rip the entire site and post it anywhere they can as a way at getting back at these adult companies. Again, this is from what I read on other forums and I don't advocate this in any way. I got screwed twice, and both times I cleared it with my CC issuer.
