WARNING: rant approaching - take cover.
Man, I don't care what anyone says on the subject. There are WAY too many languages in this world. I swear this globe we live on would be noticeably better if we all could understand each other. Everyone wants to keep their own language? Fine. But can we all learn one language so we all don't feel like strangers. We are all humans, after all. We are all in this together.
It's like in my country - Canada. Quebec wants to seperate. And the number one reason - in theory - is language. What a stupid reason. You hate the federal government? Fine. You want more decisions? Fine. You feel your culture is threatened? Fin---actually. I don't give a shit about any culture in the world, even mine. But you want to leave because of language? (I am obviously speaking to Francaphone Quebecers right now who wish to seperate on that basis) then your reason is dumb.
I would learn a new language right now if it meant everyone else in the world would also.

I think I can basically concur with what you say, mcrocket. Problem is, though, that many people value cultural aspects higher than you do. And the culture of a people or peoples of the same heritage is based on language. Take French, German, English, Italian. If you ask people from France, Germany, England or Italy about cultural milestones in their respective countries' history, most of them will come up with names like Zola, Goethe, Shakespeare, Boccaccio, and so on. That means people associate their culture and what it stands for with language to a certain degree.
I do agree, though, separating from your home country because of language issues is dumb. And it would be nice if the whole world spoke one language in addition to one's own. And English actually is pretty easy to learn, methinks.

And by the way. Welcome to the board. I have always liked Sweden - from a far. Independent. Great social system (like Canada). I hope I visit there one day.

Well, I am not American. I am Canadian. But it's almost the same thing.
Hope you go to the states and fulfill your dream. Careful though. I am no expert at all on the movies. But I have heard that the movie industry can be a VERY cold place. So be prepared. Americans can be the nicest people in the world. And they can be the most selfish also. They just LOVE money.

I hate to say it. But I think they are probably a little prettier in the States. Or maybe just because their are 9 times as many people down there - it just seems that way.
