Super Bowl could be heart health hazard

NEW YORK - For rabid fans of the New York Giants and New England Patriots, this Sunday's Super Bowl won't be just a game. It may be a health hazard. Heart attacks and other cardiac emergencies doubled in Munich, Germany, when that nation's soccer team played in World Cup matches, a new study reports.

While history suggests European soccer fans can get a bit more worked up than the average American football fan, doctors think there are some valid warnings to be shared.

"I know a little bit about the Super Bowl," study author Dr. Gerhard Steinbeck of Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich said in a telephone interview. "It's reasonable to think that something quite similar might happen."

Interesting story, thanks for the share. I have read articles in the past that claims Football stress causes many health problems. High blood pressure only one. Even blood clots in legs from sitting and watching to long. A few years back there was a story of a man who died on Thanksgiving day. He got clots from sitting in a bad position all day watching football. (I looked and couldn't find the story) :(

I myself have walked away from the tv for a few minutes pis*** opps :( I mean stressed out to much and light headed. I'm a Skins fan, nuff said lmao.

I remember when the St. Louis Rams were in the Super Bowl in 1999, I thought I might have a heart attack. That was a very stressful game, but fortunately ended well. Now in 2001 when the Rams went back to the Super Bowl and lost to the Patriots, I somehow had to keep my murderous rage in check.

Baseball though, is the sport where I can really get myself worked up. In 2006 when the Cardinals were in the playoffs and ended up winning the World Series, I figure I lost about 20-25 years off my life from all the stress.:1orglaugh:helpme:

A heart attack watching a game :1orglaugh Is that so the retailers can shift more aspirin

Not so unbelievable is it? A lot of people go over safe stress levels watching a game and never know it. If your team is making stupid mistakes it has to anger you for example. Idiot blind referees another. If a person is really passionate about football, I don't see how the excitement and stress can't affect bp levels. I can honestly see though how in some that aren't healthy that it could result in a heart attack.

You've survived Berti Vogts. I believe you are immortal. :1orglaugh

American Football is indeed a serious health risk to me. It induces severe bouts of narcolepsy.

... Is there a doctor in the house? :helpme:

If people are likely to have a game induce a heart attack, they are unaware that they already have a condition and should see a doc for treatment, IMNSHO. :o

Show me something that says it only happens/could happen in America please. :( I am sure other sports in other countries could cause problems with die hard fans too. I don't think calling out a individual country is hardly fair.

Parking? http://www.chorley-guardian.co.uk/chorley/Hospital-parking-could-cause-heart.3703344.jp

Adult sudden death? Happens EVERYWHERE http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/heart_attack_young_healthy_people.htm We had a High School basketball player in our are die, sitting on the sidelines of the court. He had hardly played at all that game.

It depends on how big of fan you are and how intense the game. It could very easily happen I think. The heart is a unpredictable organ.
