Steve Jobs: Apple is 'All Over' Foxconn Suicides

I wonder if he's ever actually gone to see what the place even looks like. That is a lot of suicides for one place.

Well, it's a "dorm"/factory. Christ, what a life they have for themselves in China.

I'd like to see Jobs forced to work in one of his factories for a month or two and see if he's still standing by the time it's over.

$3600 a year!!! That's all they get paid!! I see why they are so stressed. If that's all apple pays out then WHY are iPhones/iPads so damn high

Don't forget, there's free room and board.

This goes right back to the illegal alien argument (although I will not hijack this thread for that purpose) about paying them lower wages and undercutting American workers.

Cost of living is not a universal measure. $3600 in China is probably similar to $25,000k here :dunno:

I don't think companies move manufacturing overseas because they want to pay fair wages

Oh, yes, outsourcing! The profits increase, and the blood flows thicker.:hatsoff:

That reminds me of how a lot of star athletes in the 90s used an excuse similar to that when they were called out about endorsing Nike. They would say they have never been to any of their factories overseas and didn't have all the information (Like blindly letting a company use your name when it's doing unethical and immoral things is somehow better.) so they couldn't make a judgment on it. That despite the enormous body of evidence people had and the number of reporters that exposed them made it so it would be impossible not to know about.

Apple does not pay their wages, Foxconn does. Sort of the way that Intel manufactures parts and sells them to HP, for example to put in their computers. The problem is that Apple has done nothing in the past 6 years to put an end to this, and in the late 90s was on record as saying Apple would become, "the new Nike" during a time where Nike was undergoing intense scrutiny for essentially organizing sweatshops.

If I remember right there was a employee that got tortured over a missing iPhone prototype or something of that nature. He later killed himself to not have to go through the torture interrogation again.

Crazy...

And that's on the tame end of some of the stuff coming out of there.

Like you said Apple has nothing to do with Foxconn's wages and such but it does look bad on them to keep having dealings with such a company. If it were me I would have long dropped ties with Foxconn long before now.

It does not matter if you are the manager of the company that lets your workers get beaten up by colleagues and even tortured etc or if you are a long-time customer company manger or CEO who sure as hell knows what is going on, no way doesn't Apple managers never been to the Foxconn plant and sure as hell they have walked around the place, they knew what went on there.

Now they will suffer the consequences. I am sure their sales will go down quite a bit

I wonder if Apple will really suffer. People should have known from commonsense or some kind of curiosity with the fact that it is made in China. As well as how protective Apple is of their products.

I really do not see a dent in anything when it comes to the common folk out there buying Apple products up without a second thought except what will make them look cool and stand out amongst their friends, or be equal with them via materialism. Egos and popularity will, for the most part, outweigh the fact that there are Chinese half way across the world getting tortured, paid low wages, and treated like shit to make someone feel good by a new technological cool toy.

At least until the next generation of Apple products comes out and they do it all over again.

I honestly do not see Apple suffering from this at all. It might scratch a little bit of the surface but nothing a little bit of touch up PR paint can't take care of.

The only thing Apple and other companies are going to do is make sure news like this does not get out.

American companies moved their manufacturing over there because their is no OSHA, no labor unions and they can pay people $300 a month or less.

Slave Labor at its finest.
