Steely Dan: Aja

My.mom used to play this album all of the time and I hated it.

But damn, upon further review, it is a great album

I have the cd. Saw them in concert once, in an open air venue. It was a good show. I wasn't to hip to Spyro Gyra...the off shoot that Fagen, and Becker started, but Steely Dan has a lot of great songs. The Royal Scam is my favorite song, by Steely Dan.

My aunt gave me Steely Dan Gold for Christmas when I fifteen, I was leery when I popped it in the tape deck. This past Christmas I saw my younger sister and we were talking about stuff from when we were teens, she said she hated hearing the opening riffs to Do It Again firing up from my room. Yes, I'm a Steely Dan Fan. "Wheels turnin' 'round and 'round/You go back, Jack, and do it again" ~high hat splash~ ~jazz chords~

I just invested as of 2016 into a Steely Dan double CD. A lot of great songs, some instant gold, some take some time to catch fire

Aja .. Is a very good jazz fusion album. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen are great innovators.

But an even better album than that ...

Jack Bruce Things We Like with Jack Bruce, John McLaughlin, Jon Hiseman and Dick Heckstall-Smith. :) ;)

McLaughlin's guitar playing and Heckstall-Smith's sax (soprano and tenor) solos are superb through out.

Probably their best album: there are lots of great tracks on it. Gaucho is pretty good too.

I prefer McLaughlin's work with the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

One of my favorite bands of all time. And I saw one of the best live performances ever back in 93(?). I don't suppose it was Merriweather Post Pavilion where you saw them outdoors, was it?

No, it was Blossom Music Center. It's South of Cleveland Ohio, and slightly North of Akron Ohio. I haven't been there in years, it used to be a really cool place to see a show, and I have seen many good bands there.

I've noticed some other jazz fusion bands mentioned here. That being the case, I feel Al Di Meola deserves mention, considering he's one of the most amazing guitar players out there.
