Spreading rep around...

I don't understand the whole "you must spread some reputation around before giving it to so-and-so again" thing.

I just tried to give some to LurkingDirk and it told me I had to spread some around first. I looked at the rep I've given and going back to March I've given rep to 10 different people, none of whom was Dirk.

How much fucking spreading around do you have to do?!?!?!?

yep, that has happened to me also ! i am beginning to think it's a glitch in the system -- esp. the way it affects some users only. v. annoying !

I **** just giving rep out to people because I can't rep the person I want too.

I think it is something like 12 people you have to rep between repping the same person. All this info is posted somewhere, but I can't find it for the life of me. It isn't in the FAQ or the Rep Game thread.

If only there was someone who worked here who could tell us.

10 would be good level, but one that could be raised on an individual basis by Mods/Admin if you had a situation (purely hypothetical, of course) where, say, a certain group of members were conspiring to promote each other artificially ....

The spread used to be a lot lower...but people ****** it.

Possibly when rep is adjusted down to a reasonable level, the spread can be reduced down a little bit.
