BERLIN (AP)—Facing questions about her gender, South African teenager Caster Semenya easily won the 800-meter gold medal Wednesday at the world championships.

About three weeks ago, the international federation asked South African track and field authorities to conduct the verification test. Semenya had burst onto the scene by posting a world-leading time of 1:56.72 at the African junior championships in Maruitius.

Her dramatic improvement in times, muscular build and deep voice sparked speculation about her gender.

I feel bad for some of those old East German women athletes. Their government pumped them so full of male hormones and other androgenic compounds that they altered their bodies to the point where a lot of them never recovered from all the negative side effects.

If she has balls, her testosterone might give her an unfair advantage. That's what the judges are saying. Now, if she ran slower, maybe they'd think she had estrogen, which would make her/him a woman...I think.

She IS a woman.. And I personally think its sad that just because she can run better & faster then most men she is being called a man. Sure she doesn't have the most 'feminine' look but I mean she grew up without running water or electricity, so Im guessing she didn't have much money to spend on 'being pretty' because its very rare that somebody doesn't have to spend at least a little bit on their looks, buying pretty dresses, getting their hair dyed/cut/styled, buying a BRA, shit even I spend money on getting my eyebrows and nails done every month.. I mean she put her life into being a good athlete and now she doesn't even get to bask in the glory of being a WORLD CHAMPION because of how vain and superficial the media (Well really the whole world) is. I think she's beautiful and I think unless any of you are perfect 10/10's you probably shouldn't say stuff like 'she's so ugly'. I for one think shes awesome :thumbsup:

I never wrote "she's ugly." I wrote that she looks exactly like Dale Carter, a man I played junior college football with before he went to Tennessee and I went to Iowa. Side by side they look identical. Come to think of it, Venus and Serena Williams look an awful lot like Dale. Maybe a gender test is in order for them as well.

Beauty is subjective as well. A lot of people think Angelina Jolie is beautiful. I happen to think she looks like a platypus. I wouldn't go so far as to say the subject of this thread is ugly but she's no great beauty, either.

I wouldn't challenge her to a foot race because I'm afraid her balls would flop over into my lane and that's just not right.

Yeah, this is one of those things that I'm not sure why they'd make it public unless/until there was some real evidence that something funny was going on. From what I've read, the "real evidence" seems to be based on rumors and speculation.

If it turns out that there's nothing to this, whoever is pushing this and took it public is going to have to eat the biggest crow the world has seen in awhile - and rightly so.

Exactly. She is only 18, & had all these distasteful allegations made during her attempts to compete. This should 1)not have been made public, 2) been investigated discreetly after she had finished competing.

Did you guys see the video? I think 95% that she is actually a he. Everything from appearance to mannerism suggest male. It is so obvious of course they have to test her/him.
