Yesterday a large amount of snow fell in a short period of time in one of the busiest parts of the Netherlands just as the evening rush-hour was about to start. The cars driving on the road compacted the snow and within half an hour the roads were covered with a layer of ice reducing the speed with wich people were able to drive to about 10km an hour. As the evening progressed the roads became slippier causing traffic to come to a complete halt in some parts. Rush-hour typically starts between 4 and 5 o'clock till about 7 o'clock. Yesterday it lasted well into the night with the last traffic jams clearing up around 2 in the morning. A lot of people were stuck in traffic for 7 hours or more.
