Yeah ! I used to ride pipes, pools & parks when it all became popular about 20 + years ago. There used to be hella lotta skateparks up and down the state of California, hundreds in fact. My friends and I built some pretty nice plywood ramps when vertical and air were the mainstay.
I still wish that I kept some of my stuff. :(

It's much like riding a bike, you never forget.

We used to scout out abandoned homes in the proposed freeway area of the valley. You see, eminent domain was in the works for a good many homes, back when, and a handful had empty swimming pools ! Just bring a broom & dustpan ! lol . . . Then the earthmovers arrived  the end of that hangout.

A friend, found this beautiful "fullpipe" nearest a fresh water reservoir about 10 miles north of Palo Alto, Ca. IIRC - Approx. 30 foot circumference. The only trouble was that we had to wait till about August to be able to hike in shovels & sandbags. The shovels to clean the mud & debris and the sand bags to dam up the trickle, if you will. Some of the guys actually plastered the roughed up areas. It just became too much effort trying to stem the flow, so we bailed.

Many of "life's firsts" came into my possession during those years. I bet that you could name about a half a dozen of those "firsts" lol

Yeah ! Those we're memorable years !

The skate and surf rat I was :o

I started when I was very young, but I was always pretty mediocre. I never wanted to do tricks, I just liked riding around. I suppose I should of got a longboard, but by the time I thought of that I was already a bit too old to be skating.

my basic equipment is my Kryptonics "Moon Bat" board, it's a good skateboard, reccomended by me at least. I don't wear any protective gear and skate shoes i use are Circa 211Bold and green Nike Bangers. I listen to my mp3 player during skateboarding, because it keeps highly motivated. basic styles are punk rock, rock, and hip hop sometimes. Punk rock is to most listened style by me.

If you hear music during skateboarding, i would reccomend Rise Against

Kryptonics has been around for eons ! They began as a wheel exclusive operation. I remember these wheels that they came out with - they were bright green with a hard plastic core (where the bearing press in). I think that they were 94 DUROMETER urethane. Hard & fast ! Very unforgiving if you hit a cherry pit though ! lol ! ~

They also mfged a softer compound wheel in bright orange, better suitable for rougher street stuff.

Germans always made the best bearings !!

I use to skateboard a bunch back in middle school/high school.

I still have a brand new complete deck under my bed that I never used but once or twice.
