Should Monarchs be allowed to abdicate the throne late in life?

For those who don't know the Japanese Emperor gave his "final" year end speech as he's quitting in 2019.

I think it's a farce. You live a life of luxury and now you want to enjoy "retirement"? Fuck that. ***** them to work as a "commoner" and pay back the money they mooched off of society. It's one thing if you were still young (like teenager) and abdicated because you knew that life wasn't for you, and lived as a commoner for your adult life. But if you didn't want to give up that free ride, then you'd better be willing to finish the gig until the very end. Leonidas, Napoleon, at least these guys earned their keep, while current monarchs seem to think hand waving is strenuous work. It's bullshit they can retire from the most cushy job in the world.
