Should Conan O'Brien Leave NBC?

Should Conan O'Brien Leave Sinking Ship NBC?

Back in 2004, when NBC promised Conan O'Brien that he'd get to host 'The Tonight Show' in five years, the gig looked like a career-crowning achievement. Today, however, it looks more like an albatross.

O'Brien has the dubious honor of hosting the flagship late-night program on NBC at a time when the network is mired in fourth place, when his own ratings have plummeted, when the desperate cheapness of the Jay-Leno-at-10PM experiment seems to be dragging down both prime time and late-night, and when what's left of the proud Peacock network is about to be sold to a cable service provider.

Where would he go and should Andy Ritcher come back?

I remember Andy Ritcher's Fox shows that were canceled because Fox loves to cancel the good stuff and keep the redundant crap on! I would support that!

As for as Conan O'Brien leaving NBC... who knows. I don't care. I don't watch any of them shows anymore. Unless a clip shows up on The Soup.

Beyond that, last time I watched Conan O'Brien was when Universal merged with NBC and he would pull the lever and show a bunch of random, hilarious Walker Texas Ranger clips that looked funny or horrible due to taken out of context!

I still remember the one where Walker told the boy to jump from the ladder and he would catch him and Walker stepped back to let him fall to the ground! haha Funny

And the one where Walker punched the woman trying to grab the ladder to climb to the helicopter.

Ah, those were classics!

I liked Andy's show. The title could have been better, but it was still good.

Anyway, if Conan does leave he needs to go to a network that wants a long term deal and where Conan can be as creative with the show as he wants.

Like bringing in a few good comedy writers and actors.

I see him on TBS... taking over George Lopez. Possibly SpikeTV. Maybe he could do a hilarious traveling show on the Travel Channel. As a one time thing. Conan explores America... with bits of Canada, or something.

Andy R, now I liked both of his shows. That business one Takes over the universe or something and that family sitcom he had. I liked him in Monk too in one episode, it was still fun seeing him on there.

Sounds like total bull to me.
Jay Leno is a dead fish, the last few years I switched over to Letterman and then back to Conan, and now I watch Conan and switch over to Ferguson.
Leno shot himself in the foot by letting the Tonight Show get dull, and Conan taking over was a bigger deal then Jay Leno leaving - to give back the tonight show to Jay Leno after Conan made it his own will kill that franchise for ever.
Conan has been the King of late night TV long before he got the Tonight Show.
If there is any truth to that article at all, the best thing would be to hand Jay his walking papers and let him look for a cable show.
Jay stopped being funny when he took over the tonight show, he was so much funnier when he guessed hosted for Johnny Carson.
I watch Conan and he seems to be just as funny as ever, it just seemed he had allot to get use to.

I wish Conan had a better slot here in Britain. Here he's stuck on a financial channel (MSNBC) and during the week it's just a highlight show, you have to wait 'till the weekend to see it in full. That wasn't always the case, it used to be him and Leno in full the day after it aired in the States.

As for Leno, I've not seen his new show (because I can't get it), but I used to like the Tonight Show. I like Conan more, but give the guy a break.

IMO - Conan is not funny. Not a diss to all the Conan fans, just my opinion.

Conan remains entertaining but I wish they would have left him in NYC.

As for Leno, while some of the bits they used to do on his show were funny, Leno himself is totally overrated and I'm glad his 10:00 show is failing.

Agreed, as someone that lives in Britain also, it's a pain in the arse to see him

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
I think Conan would be better doing a variety show like Dave Chappelle. He is not good at interviews. Have him do a monologue, set up the bits. Maybe one guest but not pieces of shit like Spencer and everyone else from reality shows. Make it a half-hour and the show will be good.

Jay Leno hasn't been relevant in a long time

Which one are you guys talking about? He had two shows on Fox;Andy Richter Controls The Universe(which was fucking great, but ultimately too quirky for Fox),or Quintuplets (funny, but very formulaic).

The late night talk shows have been rendered obsolete by cable news and the internet. I don't see any of them lasting beyond 5 years. Celebrities just show up to plug shit. Any real interesting stories have long been churned through the news cycle before the late night talk shows get to them. :dunno:

NBC has plenty of quality TV currently on the USA Network. They should move over the entire USANetwork schedule to NBC and get serious about creating great comedies again...

I personally think Conan is hilarious and seems like a genuinely nice guy so I hope whatever he does is for the better but I highly doubt after making such a huge move less than a year ago he will be moving again anytime soon

Conan and Leno are irrelevant. Letterman is nearly so. The one late night person getting a lot of looks and saying interesting things is craig ferguson. He's very unconventional and quirky, and not afraid to weigh in on issues. I think he's most likely the direction late night will go for the next few years (after we weed out the old school conan type folks).

But that's just my $0.02, and what do I know? :dunno:

Both. I mentioned the two being great in my second post. I loved them both and hated to see them go after hardly given a chance. Fox cancels way to many shows and shoot themselves in the foot financially. They could at least let it go until a third season and see how it fares up and properly advertise their programming.
