what the fuck you lookin at?
Which do you prefer and why?

I've been playing gears 2 damn near everyday since it was released. I've played with people on there who don't like first person shooters. I got to wondering what the difference is. Only thing I can tell is in 3rd person your behind your character. In first person, you just see the weapon in front of you. Any other notable differences? I for one couldn't give fuck less if its 1st or 3rd person perspective.

I prefer 3rd person... I'm playing Wanted for XboX 360... great game!!

I prefer 3rd person, but some first person games are cool once you get the hang of them and accept you have no peripheral vision.

I wish you'd made the poll multiple choice because I wanted to vote for "3rd person" and "Fuck you legz!"

I prefer 3rd person, for the reason as Slay mentioned, no peripheral vision.
I still enjoy 1st person alot though, whether it be Resistance, Call Of Duty, Rainbow Six... to name a few...

I like TPS, but they're way over-hyped. It's not like it's an overwhelming idea, it's just a minor stylistic detail. Gameplay isn't affected very much.

As for personal taste, I think shooters are to be played first-person with mouse and keyboard. Console shooters I've long given up on fully understanding because of this very reason. What's the point in deliberately playing with the horrible precision of a control pad joystick instead of a mouse? It's a huge step backwards.
And playing third-person is similarly reducing the feeling of melding together with the game when you're not the person holding the rifle but rather a puppeteer.

But like I said it's mainly a matter of design and I can live with both. The idea of TPS is neat because it brings some reason into designing the protagonist even for shooters.

FPS for me. I like to use high sensitivity and like the more fast-paced games more. Cover systems are great, but slow things down a bit too much for me.

Anyone played Quantum of Solace? great Game with 1st and 3rd Person View when in Cover. i like em both

Except the GTA series (if you call that a shooter) I prefer 1st person. Better feeling to me. You are really in the game.

I "accidentally" clicked another poll option!

I'm an FPS guy myself, simply because the controls of all but the best TPSs have terrible controls.

As long as they have the targeting system and camera controls done well I don't mind either one. Too bad that's often not the case. The third person one does have the advantage of being more cinematic because you can actually look at yourself, off course in most games your just looking at your back all the time. I have also hade times where your body has blocked the view at a critical moment in third person shooters so maybe it evens out. Although, maybe that can be considered a camera issue. If acrobatics or platforming is involved in the game I find it harder to do in first person just because it's harder to pinpoint exactly where you take off or land.

I prefer the 1st person view, but that's probably because I've been conditioned to play them this way, so if a big 3rd person game comes around and starts a new trend, then maybe we'll see a general swaying of people starting to enjoy 3rd person games more. Resident 4 and 5 and Gears are some examples of games perhaps changing from 1st person all the time.

As it was already said, I guess it depends on the game.
I am not to picky about either.

i prefer 1st person.

i feel that it can become a little more realistic and, if you try hard enough, you can put yourself in the situation that's taking place on the screen more so.

with the 3rd person, you can't help but see the character you're playing as and it's harder to get lost in the game. it's not you, but rather someone else that you're controlling.

3rd person is just less realistic, imo.

it takes a split second for me to get my bearings straight when i switch from a 3rd to a 1st person game, but not the other way around....Both are really fun :):fight:
