Sen. Schumer, Liberal Democrat, Signs Off On No Taxes On Wealthy

Like, why wouldn't he...?? He and the rest of his weak kneed Demo congressional cowardleagues are the main reason we're in this mess.

This morning New York's senior Senator, long a fighter for liberal causes, but also a recipient of Wall Street largesse, supported without any qualification the Democratic surrender on raising revenues from the wealthy to offset a fraction of the huge spending cuts that will be in the debt limit bill.

Schumer thinks there are 3 branches of government..The House, the Senate and the President..So really..

Yeah...saying no to necessary tax 'hikes' is equally dumb...So I agree, really...

To quote some Greek Conservative from the 2nd Athenian Empire.."The enemies of Athens must pay the Assembly to meet so frequently, since they make so many mistakes."

Personally, I think that direct elections should be held only for members of the state legislatures, which then choose the Senators which then go on to the Senate. Not to mention we could choose Representatives from each district via la ot, thus removing the majority suppressing the minority via voting.Hell, I bet things would be better off since we would have removed both career and insane politicians from Congress once and for all.
At times, you know, when you see the likes of Sheila Jackson Lee going about that there are 2 Vietnams living "side by side", you think that anybody from her district would make a better member of Congress than her.

:dunno: And you see my fustration? What can anyone do when Republicans control the House and seems to be happy with the economy doing poorly to regain the the White House(assuming Obama will be blamed for a worsening economy)?

I was disappointed when the Bush era tax cuts weren't allowed to expire ,but I guess Shumer(and Dems) feel they will at least expire by 2012 unless Republicans bitch slap them again:facepalm:

Republicans won't even agree to tax loopholes and seem to have Dems by the balls.

Who the fuck would have ever thought the debt limit increase would seriously be used as a leverage for Republicans.

So has this set a precedent and the debt limit now a legitimate tool in the future that Dems can use as well for leverage?:dunno:

Dems would be deemed traiterous by the Right if they ever tried it though.

Therein lies the dilemma, turn the Demos out because they can't do what's necessary in favor of the GOPers who won't do what's necessary.

(Repeat cycle)

Sounds like some depressing shit and I guess the reason I have been generally uninterested in the minutia of American politics(until Obama came along).

The Dems control the Senate and White House yet the Gop has them by the balls with this debt limit bullshit?

The GOP won't rest it seems until they have finally ended Social Security/Medicare,etc..(so called entitlements). Yet the poorest Region of the country(South; who could benefit from SS and Medicare the most) foolishly vote for the party who is attacking said programs:facepalm:

Some argue the US should submit to the UN in the same regard, "better leadership." Same often argue the US federal government knows better than any state as well.

Who "knows" better? Do you think aliens would really understand all the intricacies and eccentricities of our government? What if they were an uniform type of civilization that felt individual freedoms and choice were inefficient? What if they could not comprehend our "values" and "way of life"?

I know you're point was not serious, but my point is it's not so simple. There is no "right thing" here. There is only a lot of debate about it.
