Security JOBS -- Confessions

I eventually became a security officer after a printing career.

CONFESSION-
As a security officer on the late night / early morning shift I had to endure some weird circumstances beyond my control and in some ways not controllable in some ways.

I was a guard watching the front of a home depot and was told I could leave to attend to bathroom needs. After a while it became a real pain to leave so I found it easier to pee in back of the lunch trailer/concession trailer. I got mad at the situation at times and peed in the mop bucket and broom stored there. Mind you it was out front but at 3 am no one around. I needed to go there rather than the parking lot to hide from sec cameras by home depot not related to my security. The sec cameras actually watched me to see if I was there. The only real fix was to have a second guard to watch while I used the inside facilitys and home depot allowing that as opposed to locking it up for the night.

As a guard at an apartment building with no available bathroom- a detail completely known to the mgt but somehow they want me there for 6 hours and not leave and no bathroom.

My main place was the laundry room trash can filled with lint at like 1 am or the childrens sand pit in from of someones front door if they came out at 1am or bushes in front of someones door. Parking was a problem walking 3 blks to get back on post and gas station bathroom was 10 mins away.

The customer seemed like it was a problem to leave for a bathroom and also could not provide one so- fuck him the inconsiderate bastard
and where did he expect I would go. I should have sprinkled the pool.

Next time you see a security officer or a night shift person - put your self in his position.
I always wonder if anyone caught on to my actions.

I think that is one reason the sec guard company puts men in some posts and not women for the peeing differences.
They said they would not post a women on grave yard shift but would of course hire women for other shifts.
(I do not think it violates discrimination laws to refuse a shift only a refusal to hire at a company entirely)

ALL KINDS of stuff happens on the night shift.

I did "Yellow Jacket" "Security" while in college - mostly at concerts and the like. One night my friend and I were asked to "guard" some convention area for the night after the vendors left. Before some left they told us what area they had and said if we wanted something to help ourselves. This was smart since it meant we stopped by their place. We ate so much food that night it was great. We found a couch in the women's restroom and since we were the only ones there we slept on it for a few hours each - taking turns. What happens at night "When the Cat is away" is amazing

In the late eighties and in the nineties, I workeda number of random jobs as stage hand/security. For several small bands and some times for a german comedian/musician (Helge Schneider). The moving the P.A. system and parts of the instrument cases was the short part, standing at various places in and outside at cncerts and events was the longer part. I did this in a crew of friends, they varied in size and ambition, and so the part as security was for some of us a real pain in the ass, for others mostly just keeping the crowd away from entering the stage or putting beer glasses on the mixing board etc.

I am on the taller side, and was always pretty fit, so I did not have too much trouible keeping the peace. I noticed that if I put my mind in the setting, "Don't mess with me. You enjoy the show, I make sure it stays within limits.", that transported iitself to the people and they were easier to handle. Getting exited, or acting like a wild man, that provokes people. Stand tall, broaden your shoulders, look over the heads, don't make stupid faces.

And wearing a leatherjacket and a dark turtleneck helped. It's that image, I guess.
