San Diego Chargers to leave San Diego

http://www.latimes.com/sports/nfl/la-sp-chargers-move-la-20170111-story.html

When the idea of teams relocating to LA finally started to warm up again, and teams were being discussed, I thought these guys would go first. It's a kickass city, but not a pro football city, and I've been rooting for the Chargers as an arm's length fan since boss Ross took them to the mountain top. Only for the 'Niners to kick em in the crotch. Once USC got burnt, and lost its luster, the market was ripe for a high flying, big armed offense, and the Chargers seemed to me to be the best bet for a fast start. But LA has to take the retarded cousin back, first. Haha.

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
Chargers to play first two years in 30,000 seat stadium. Will be lucky to fill it.

I heard someone (a veteran someone...might have been Charlie Casserly) float as an early outside the box prediction the Payton-traded-to-LA coach deal, ala Gruden back in the day, and Brees to follow him when his contract permits (which I think may have changed...extension, or something). Well, once I saw that Payton was actually denying contact with LA, I thought, "sumbitch, that dude probably knew a little something". I talk like that in my head. Anyway, does anyone know how easy it would be for Brees to leave New Orleans if he wanted to? I know he's extremely pro-labor, and I would guess his contract gives him more latitude than most franchise players, but I don't know. Anyone a Saints fan? I think that'd be awesome, Brees a Ram and Rivers a whatever (I think they should keep the charger, just go back to the horse), in the same town. Then maybe LA would give a shit about football again.

I don't have the business acumen, but does L.A. need to give a shit about football (aren't they the same with their Dodgers?) as much as the NFL needs to be in L.A.? That seems to be a major black mark with the NFL.

No, the NFL needs LA for sure. A team can just sit there and be a piece of shit, and still get an equal share of TV revenue (that's why you had the Bengals and the Cardinals, etc, shitty cheap owners that sat back and got fat with bad football and empty stadiums). No, the NFL wants the audience. They desperately want it. USC was the shit for a while, and the NFL didn't have a shot, but now. I don't know. I love football, so I'd sure as shit adopt the town's new team, if my town got one, but that's me. I think if you live in the emerging Calcutta of the western hemisphere, you might have bigger problems than football. :)

Correct.

If I'm from San Diego I'm happy I'm not going to get fleeced into spending tax payer dollars on a new stadium.

I was listening to a sports talk show, and the host was like, "find me the person that's excited about the Chargers move", and I think he's got a point; you've got people that are pissed, and people that don't care. Where are the excited Los Angeles Chargers fans?

I think they should return to a new take on the charger-as-in-battlehorse logo, from season 1

I'm glad they made the move. I must be the only guy not hating Philip Rivers (I know he can be a doofus, but he could and would win a SB, if the team was as consistent as when the Lord of No Rings ran the show - say what you will about AJ Smith, he's what made them competitive in the '00s. They may have 1-2 more seasons of Rivers as a 4000+ bomber. I hope they make a run.
