Rosie O’Donnell’s hypocrisy finally caught up to her
There are a lot of things that sank Rosie O’Donnell’s debacle of a show on Oprah’s network, OWN. But one has to think that chief among them is the fact that the woman’s values are whack and her politics are a perfect picture of Hollywood hypocrisy.
As I point out in my brand-new book, Hollywood Hypocrites: The Devastating Truth About Obama’s Biggest Backers, Rosie may have been given the nickname “queen of nice,” but this soubriquet ignores that she is an extreme antiwar hater with a track record of conveying equally extreme mean-spiritedness (her antics have included screaming at guests and bullying former cohost Elisabeth Hasselbeck).
Throughout the course of her talk career, Rosie has displayed quite a talent for trashing our leaders (provided they’re Republicans), defending our enemies, and otherwise spewing her Leftist propaganda and milder forms of idiocy. As the popular gossip website Deadline.com explained on the show’s cancellation, Rosie was “a polarizing figure with strong political views and aggressive style, something that kept station buyers on the sidelines when she was shopping a syndicated talk show in 2010.”
You see, as we witness professional liberal groups publicly patting themselves on the back after some advertisers distanced themselves from Rush Limbaugh over comments he made about Sandra Fluke, Rosie O’Donnell’s left-wing brain farts have left her virtually without an audience to sell any advertisements to. Meanwhile, Rush’s popularity continues to grow.
Besides her the run-of-the-mill, garden-variety liberal venting (Bush is a “war criminal”), Rosie complained that Osama bin Laden was assassinated without due process of law. In this she joined the 11 percent of Americans who think it was wrong to kill him on the spot versus the 80 percent of Americans who say his assassination was handled well. Ever the one to cheapen the murders that took place on September 11, she believes—and has frequently tried to make us believe—that 9/11 was staged and that al‑Qaeda was not responsible. Her argument: it’s “physically impossible” for steel to melt in fire, but the World Trade towers’ steel did—so the building’s steel had to have been tampered with by someone on the inside (cough—cough—Bush!). She went so far as to claim that Rudy Giuliani had shipped all the twin towers’ steel to China so it couldn’t be tested.
Not content to offend the Americans who lost loved ones in the World Trade Center, Rosie has also unleashed her big mouth on the millions of Americans who express their Second Amendment rights. In 2000 she emceed the “Million Mom March,” a gun control protest that set records as America’s largest-ever gun control rally and America’s largest gathering of women and girls. So passionate on this issue is the “comedienne” that she once stated on a previous talk show, “I don’t care if you want to hunt. I don’t care if you think it’s your right. I say ‘Sorry.’ ”
In her ideal scenario, “you are not allowed to own a gun, and if you do own a gun I think you should go to prison.”
But in the midst of all Rosie’s anti-gun rhetoric she failed to mention something very important: one of her own bodyguards had applied for a gun permit!
That’s right. Besides being a liberal loon, Rosie O’Donnell is a Grade A hypocrite.
Initially she suggested that her bodyguard had been prompted by the company he represented to apply for the license. Later she admitted that she did feel that she and her family needed to be protected from—who else—Second Amendment advocates. (Paranoid much?) In one of many attempts to explain her use of a bodyguard, she said, “I chose to have a ‘bodyguard’ for my children.”
Okay, fine.
But what about us card-carrying NRA members who pack heat in order to protect our families and private property? How are we any different from a talk-show host who wants only her kids to be protected by an armed bodyguard?
And there’s the rub: Americans are sick and tired of getting lectured to by Hollywood hypocrites who never follow the policy prescriptions that they seek to inflict on the rest of us. Moreover, they’re increasingly becoming impatient with celebrities who use their platforms to push unreasonable and offensive political rants disguised as intellectual musings.
The demise of Rosie O’Donnell is proof. Once a mega talk show star, now she can’t even hold down a job on a flagging network.
