Rosanne Barr: Where Is The Humor?

A comedian is supposed to bring about an involuntary response called laughter. I don't even see an attempt here. A bitter, crazy, old bitch who hasn't been funny since the early 90s doing a bad impersonation of Lenny Bruce reading off his enemies list. FNC's target audience are their elderly subscribers who you'd think wouldn't appreciate a comic working blue.

It's a shame some people rate comics according to who they vote for.

History repeats.
If the emperor(king, commander, etc) doesn't like it, the underlings shouldn't.
Parroting the king = humor. Because he likes it.
I'm preaching to the choir. We are woke for taking a skeptical eye.

This is a terrible roll. Distracting music and somehow sponsored by Fox which just can't be good. I know she HAS to have funny left in her. Roseanne was a fantastic show.

As long as we brought it up why are there hardly, if any, funny conservatives? If there are a few it seems an exception proves the rule deal. Who are the funny conservative comics? Please post a bit of theirs you think is funny.

Forgot about the blue collar comedy guys until now.

Generally everyone else is far more liberal with the innuendo. I can't think of anyone, at all though, who didn't push humor for parents while still being safe for the kids.

Even Jeff Foxworthy still insinuates that things aren't all as they seem. Rednecks. Incest. Back to prison. Theft. Drugs. Alcoholism, et

Indeed. Dunham has a definite conservative slant to his stuff.
I thought of Louis c.k. but he donated to the Biden campaign, so.. negative on that.

Chappelle seems racially and ethically conservative.
I suppose he is just doing his middle aged-to-older black thing. I've not known too many elders to stay liberal and integrated. Nothing surprising. Perhaps the older generation has a few, the rat pack and such

A lot of the old British comedians in the 70s and 80s were generally conservative with their politics but very little of their humour stands up.

Most of the best comedy tends to steer clear of politics entirely although there are exceptions, like later George Carlin. I guess Marc Maron too, his recent show was fantastic although the best stuff in that (about dealing with his partner dying) was non-political.

George Carlin is my favorite of all-time. Marc Maron is funny too and I liked him in GLOW on Netflix. I would enjoy going to The Comedy Store and have Marc Maron show up for some stand-up. If you ever come to LA please go to The Comedy Store on Sunset Bl. The history alone of that place...

Have you seen George Carlin's American Dream yet? Thought it was a brilliant documentary about his life and career and how his comedy evolved over time.

If you liked Carlin, look up some stuff by Dave Allen, the Irish comedian, on YouTube. He had a similar way about him and similar material, him and Carlin are my two favourites of all time.

But yes, Maron's new one is awesome - honestly have no idea how he made parts of it so funny because they shouldn't be.

Haven't seen that documentary but I will try to find it.

I will check out the Irish comic.

I will also look for new Marc Maron material.

Thanks Steve.

I have a theory that conservatives, by their nature are resistant to change and humor because of an inner trauma in regards to their youth.

Somewhere along the line, they felt Uber helpless as someone laughed at them and called them out or otherwise insulted them in just such a way as to permanently flip their idea of humor.

They find discomfort in laughing with people, but find it malicious to laugh at others for perceived inferiority.

These days narcissism is a catch all term for it, but when humor is seen as a weapon and not a joyous activity, i believe that is why conservatives are such in a defensive loop.

(This is how i am and i won't change it. It was all great until that trauma!)
So they're just resistant to most forms of humor that aren't absolutely safe to begin with... And end up being targeted towards an enemy.

Think of a jeff dunham show. It starts off without cussing and with silliness(peanut), but ends up with racial stereotypes(jalapeno), making fun of a dead terrorist(achmed), poking fun at rednecks (bubba) and bitching about the wife. (Walter)

Gotta ease into the insult humor of conservative mindsets.

Meanwhile liberal humor is about the plight of real life and sex, often. Self depreciation because we are okay with hating ourselves.

Which, perhaps is why it's so easy to find liberal porn. (Plz FuCK my wife and hate my dick size) as opposed to conservative porn. (Raceplay, gagging)

Just a thought.

I was raised in a Conservative house and I am probably a right of center guy myself. My dad and my grandfather were funny guys but the Russian ancestry gave them a morbid sense of humor. Any punch line in their jokes was as a result of some guy getting more than just punched.

My grandmother would go outside and talk to the other old ladies and say, "My husband, he love me." Then one would say, "Love you? But he put all those bruises on you!" My grandmother would smugly reply, "Yes. But he never hit me in face."
