Straw man fallacy:

The Straw Man fallacy is committed when a person simply ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position. This sort of "reasoning" has the following pattern:

Person A has position X.
Person B presents position Y (which is a distorted version of X).
Person B attacks position Y.
Therefore X is false/incorrect/flawed.
This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because attacking a distorted version of a position simply does not constitute an ****** on the position itself.

Surely you jest, Johnny. The congress' affinity for deciding to do nothing (and that includes democrats for sure but since the republicans have held the recent majority, who should take most of the blame?). Despite Obama's obvious lack of leadership and inability to create compromise (to me, the most important attribute of a Chief Executive), the republicans have been nothing but obstructionists and whiners without presenting any reasonable alternatives to Obama's policies. It's exemplary of our government's dysfunction and you can choose to blame whichever side you want but the truth is that it's the system that's rotten and needs to be replaced. Good luck with that idea, huh?

No. Whorehouse Harry tabled HUNDREDS of bipartisan bills ****** by the House because he is a petty, mean spirited asshole (I would have used "asshat" but that would diminish the good name of asshats everywhere). He didn't want Stompy Foot to look like a petulant *****, vetoing everything in sight. So he brought virtually nothing in the senate to a vote. That is tyranny, when one "man" derails the political process and ignores the desires of millions of people to favor his own party and agenda.

I love that he claims he was beat up by a fucking rubber band.

Compromise has been turned into a dirty word, in the same vein as "librul". Propaganda is a strong and effective tool, problem is, the deeper you dig to find the true agenda, the more questions pop up and no one seems to be willing to dig deeper in the first place. It was pronounced to me yesterday, "Ah'm a republican", by a person I know has eye problems and can't read, so I'm left to wonder how did this person, whom I've known for a long time, suddenly come to this revelation? Can't really read, so this monumental moment of clarity must have been delivered through some means other than the eyes. Monkey see no evil, monkey must have heard some evil, it's the perfect Republican, really. Disappointing, to say the least. Alrighty then, liberals are easy targets because so many do so much stupid **** and conservatives love to generalize one instance of stupidity to the whole population of "libruls", but don't seem to like it when the shoe is on the other foot, I'm trying to understand, I'm trying real hard, Ringo, someone, please enlighten me.

Clearly you don't understand the concept of a straw man argument. It is when you change the position of your opponent to give yourself something easier to argue against. In this case the republicans are making a bunch of untenable requests, and then whining about lack of compromise because they're not allowed to destroy anything. That's not a straw man, it's exactly the point.

Here is an excellent example of a straw man argument:

See the difference? One uses hyperbole of the truth to demonstrate the ridiculousness of the republican position, the other creates a complete fabrication that doesn't represent anybody's viewpoint so that people like you can believe it and jerk each other off, claiming that you're protecting Murica from them damn libruls.

I think anyone saying that the Democrats or the Republicans have been open to compromise and its the other party that has been blocking everything is purely partisan and willfully ignoring what has been happening.
