Apple factory finds answer to worker suicides... replace staff with one million robots

Taiwan's Foxconn Technology Group, known for assembling Apple's iPhones and iPads in China, plans to use more robots, with one report saying the company will use one million of them in the next three years, to cope with rising labour costs.

Foxconn's move highlights an increasing trend toward automation among Chinese companies as labour issues such as high-profile strikes and workers' suicides plague firms in sectors from vehicles to technology.

Contract manufacturers such as Foxconn, which also counts Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Nokia among its clients, are moving parts of their manufacturing to inland Chinese cities or other emerging markets.

'Workers' wages are increasing so quickly that some companies can't take it longer,’ said Dan Bin, a fund manager at Shenzhen-based Eastern Bay Investment Management, which invests in technology and consumer-related shares in China and Hong Kong. :noway:

"to cope with rising labour costs and worker suicides"

This is what happens when you work for communists.
They don't want a sustainable middle class.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
The same thing is happening in the U.S. I've been incorporating automation and robotics into my manufacturing projects whenever possible since about 2005. I read a similar article on Bloomberg last night. And one comment was that any worker (American or otherwise), who is doing a job that could be performed by an automated piece of equipment, is at risk of being replaced. Go into most newer auto assembly plants and you'll see robots performing material handling duties, as well as body panel placement and painting functions.

People keep saying it, but younger people refuse to listen: anyone who is under the age of 25 should be pursuing a degree or certificate in a S.T.E.M. area (science, technology, engineering, math). And advanced robotics is one of the best areas to go into now. Thinking that someone is going to pay you $20/hour to pack buggy whips into a cardboard box is just a fantasy these days.

What do you know...Communists have the same goal as Republicans.
The entire robot replacement idea is what you get when you have capitalism. The rich want to get richer, so they outsource the work to the little guy (or, in this case, little machine). Look what is happening in the States - we outsourced our jobs to the Chinese, almost completely removing the manufacturing sector, turning us into a service-oriented country. Now, instead of building cars, computers, TVs and chainsaws, we only sell them.
However, some guy working at Walmart, Target or The Home Depot is not going to make nearly as much as the guy who worked at Panasonic, Homelite, or Dell (at least when they were made in the U.S.). So, the modern worker has a lot less to spend on stuff than the worker from 50 years ago. So, we are selling less stuff.
But, golly gee, since we are selling less stuff, then those jobs at Walmart, Target or The Home Depot become eliminated, stream lined, or part-time. And since part-timers make a LOT less than those full-timers we once had...well, gosh, even LESS money is going into the local economy. So we have to get rid of even more workers, or cut their pay or hours.
Fortunately, those workers making less have some saviors. One, they can start using credit to buy stuff they cannot afford! Sure, with that credit, they will actually be paying MORE for that stuff in the end...but then again, probably not, because they will have to declare bankruptcy. Or, they can start working lots and lots of part-time jobs, putting in more hours for much less pay, spending much less time with their family, therefor destroying the American family in the mean time as an extra bonus.
Ah, but fear not! The economy has been rebounding and some companies have been seeing record profits. Fortunately, those profits are not going to the little people who need it, but the suits, who are already the proud owners of record tax breaks, as well as a system that easily allows them to move their money around so those profits become deficits, and the government gives them more money, keeping it out of the hands of those stupid poor people, because giving government money to THEM would be socialism. Giving government money to suits is capitalism. And even better yet is that we have a bunch of little-minded but big-mouthed little tea baggers who are actively fucking the middle class even more in the name of more money for the rich.
Isn't learning fun, kids?

Not at all. It has nothing to do with true capitalism either.

There is no Republican party. You can call them the "GOP."

It does, you just have not done enough research about capitalism nor communism.

I will call them the OP, since they are old and they are populated by the tea baggers party. There is nothing grand about them.

I have done enough research and I will do more.

Vladimir Lenin called communist sympathizers in the west, "Useful idiots."

“When there is state there can be no freedom, but when there is freedom there will be no state.” Vladimir Lenin

I would rather have freedom.

Blah, blah, blah...

I actually must congratulate you...that is one of your most intelligent posts yet, adding more to the thread than usual. Reps to you.
:goodpost:

I fail to see what you ever add to any thread.

"Republicans do this... teabaggers do that..." is all that I ever see you "contribute." You go off-topic in an ultra-partisan way every chance you get. "Oh, well, Republicans do this... that's like the Republicans..."

You're just like every other idiot that's actually in congress. You're so caught up with what color tie posters are wearing you never even discuss the topic.

As much partisan bickering, and distracting from the topic at discussion as you engage in, you should run for political office, you'd fit right in.

We get it. You're a liberal. And liberals have had no hand whatsoever in making this country the appalling piece of shit it is today... none whatsoever. (Do I need the sarcasm smiley here?)

But Jesus Christ, even Will E. can make a few posts in a thread without going partisan right off the bat.

Neg. rep given.

We are not here to learn or read or alter our opinions. No. Every opinion is already solidly formed, and, based on fact or not, every opinion is correct.

Honestly, what the fuck is wrong with you? It's almost like you have advanced degrees, are well read, are smart, and have something to offer. Clearly that makes you a terribly stupid person.

Shifty

O.G.
Will,

Isn't this simply doing business?

I'm note seeing any political angle here. Could Communism exist without human labor?

Hard to pin some of these people down at times...they're for corporatism one day and against it the next.:hairpull:

Not too long ago I read something about some european Maoists and thought "What a bunch of dumbfucks-there aren't even any Maoists in China!"
