Recommendations on a free movie ripper?

I have some full movies on my computer (not on DVD) that I'd like to just capture certain scenes from.

anyone have any suggestions on a free product to use for capturing specific clips from a movie?

I only know af Avidemux. That's what I used to make my signature.
It's very easy, you open the file and set the slider @ the bottom where you want the clip to begin and push the "A" button. Then you move the slider to where you want it to end and push the "B" button. Next you click on save and you're done
