Rap stars, who can you stand or not

Talking about rap music earlier and was wondering which ones people like or can stand and which ones people hate.

I hate the ones who go on and on about there wealth, the women they fuck and what cars they drive like Ja Rule, Puff Daddy etc. But when Rap is done right its as good as any genre of music. Tu Pac is probably the best, Eminem is capable of great music and Jay-Z has made some great songs. The Game looks like a quality rapper in the making as well.

However my personal favourite is Snoop Dogg, not only is he really really good but he is hilarious as well.

Sorry, but "gansta rap" turns me off. I don't want to listen to someone stating how he going to kill anyone who stands in his way, or how much bling-bling he has, or how he treats his gyal like a ho.
But most offensive to me are rappers who think nothing about using "ni88er" continously. It's as if they've forgotten everything that people like Martin Luther King fought for.
To me rap artists like Public Emeny made one think. 50 Cent just wants to boast about how many times he's been shot. He should ask Tupac & Biggie whether being shot is fun.

hate rap music.... hate rap music in general not just the sound or the videos, just all of it

Very fews rap song from very few rappers are good (Eminem - Stan or Cleaning Out My Colset for example).

But 95% of rap is crap. Particulary when it's all about bling-bling, hookers, (fake) gangstas and pimps.

Rap SUCKS, Metal RULES :banger: :banger: :banger:

Pretty sad when an industry changes over the last 15 years and devolves into pimping, porn, playas and haters. They don't contribute anything to society at large save for ignorance, disrespect and grammatically challenged children who grow up believing this garbage and unwed mothers raising some hoodlums bastard child. What happened to the good old days of RUN DMC, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, Beastie Boys, EPMD, Public Enemy or LL Cool J, when rap was 'innocent' and didn't go overboard and become racist or hateful? A Rap Rennaisance is what we need.

Rap used to be real political back in the day. That's what made it good, it had a message. Even when rappers dissed each other, it was only on the mic and never with fists or guns. There's very few rappers I like these days. I feel this genre is just over run with fakes like 50 Cent. The last great rapper died September 13, 1996. R.I.P. Tupac.

People need to recognise that Hip-Hop is now just another media-savvy music genre that went commercial years ago.

you should check out Jurassic 5. they seem like they're old school, so you might enjoy them. they're probably my favorite rap group that's out right now. i just picked up eric b & rakim's greatest hits the other day...good stuff.

as far as other current rap groups that i like, goodie mob (as well as cee lo's solo stuff), some outkast, some ludacris, some snoop, and Jurassic 5. that's about it. i can't stand eminem, puffy, 50 cent, and pretty much most gangsta rap. although the chronic was pretty good album, and i would consider dr dre a "gangsta rapper". go figure.

Right now, Kanye West is the best rapper cuz his shiit is deep. 50 is bullshit and is as commercial (if not more so) than someone like Brittney Spears. Kanye's lyrics are solid and his producin is tight.

So what do other music genres contribute to society? Is that really what music is about? Plus, don't you think some of the things mentioned in rap songs are just a portrait of the plain, harsh society at least some of the performers grew up in? I agree on disliking most of what rap music lyrics are about, though but wouldn't blame the music for negative developments in society.

Another thing: Why is it always that people hate music being "commercial" (whatever that actually may mean). It's a business after all. Wouldn't you want your fav band to sell their music? Or, put another way: If you were an excellent painter and had tried selling your stuff for years yet gone unnoticed and then one day, you'll discover you just have to mix in some extra color to sell hundreds of paintings, wouldn't you do it? Why is it that being "commercial" is so despicable for musicians?
