First things first. Go black to yellow and blue unis. Name the new stadium after my hometown hero Roman Gabriel. He came back home for a gathering with fellow Wilmingtonian Sonny Jurgenson when I was a tike. Everybody kept shoving photos and papers in his face for him to sign. I was all of 7 years old and I got tired of him not seeing me so I tugged on his suit jacket to say I am down here Mr. Gabriel. He stopped and looked down and picked me up and laughed, asked me my name signed my photo and handed me back to my mom. I always had a fondness for the Rams growing up because of that. NC didn't have an NFL team then. Go Panthers.

Honestly, they are a team that doesn't really spark my interest, new city or not. Jeff Fisher is highly over-rated and the owner is a douche.

They are an up and coming outfit, the move to Los Angeles is something that was in plans for a while no matter what. They aren't my favorite team, but I will still give them a look if they come on TV in my area for a game. But unfortunately, they are another team that has an owner that is hurting them.

This is dumb, but my interest in the Rams is based solely on their potential future uniform change. They need to follow the University of Oregon's example and be Nike's guinea pigs in sporting innovative uniforms. They can start with chrome helmets.

Heck yeah I'm pumped up for the Rams return.
I was a big Rams fan....until Georgia became their owner :thefinger
The Fearsome Foursome, Jon Arnett, Dave Elmendorf, Jack Snow, Dick Bass...
Wasn't really all that sorry to see them leave, but that shit is ancient history and I'm glad to see them back where they belong.
I'll probably make a trip to the Coliseum this year - catch the rest of their games on TV.

Go back to yellow and blue unis.

Definitely.
And the throwback helmets.

Roman Gabriel

Good to hear he was a good guy. As a kid it was so frustrating watching him falter every year in late season games at cold weather sites.

Just for the record, I harbor no ill will against the LA Rams fans at all and I totally get your excitement at getting what would seem to be your team back (let me warn you though, these ain't your daddy's Rams). It's the owner and management that is totally fucked (in addition to the incredibly greedy NFL billionaire owners club) who, for the first time in the league's history, broke its own bylaws and disenfranchised a city for no reason other than the fact that they could all make more money by having the franchise move to LA instead of staying in St. Louis. The Rams have the worst won/lost record in the NFL over the past 10 years (50-109). The owner makes Ebeneezer Scrooge look like Mother Theresa and their antiquated head coach would install the single wing as an offensive philosophy if he thought he could get away with it. The GM only drafts and signs players that turn out to be total busts on a regular basis. For years, the best player on the team was the punter or placekicker. Also, you can hate Georgia all you want but let me remind you that, at least as of this writing, the only Super Bowl championship in franchise history took place when she was the owner and the team was called the St. Louis Rams. Just to make sure they get off to a really good start back on the west coast, they got rid of two of their best players and definitely the heart and soul of the team in Chris Long and James Laurinaitis and the core of their secondary in Rodney McLeod and Janoris Jenkins. Now, they give away their top 3 draft picks for the next 2 years in order to take a raw California kid at QB to be the new face of the team. Trust me, he'll spend most of his time running for his life just like Sam Bradford did when they took him #1 back in 2010. From what I read, Goff is going to be a project to turn him into a classic pro-style QB. He's gonna get sacked A LOT (does the name David Carr ring a bell?). The leading receiver on the team is veteran Kenny Britt....beyond him, they really have nobody (speaking of busts....Brian Quick, Tavon Austin) for him to throw to so the entire offense is going to consist of running the legs off of Todd Gurley. On defense, Aaron Donald and Robert Quinn anchor an awesome D-line (Donald is actually a budding superstar) but, since they don't have anyone behind them, I don't see them being nearly as dominant as they have been the past few years. On top of that they are going to be playing their home games at the scenic, historic and colorful LA Coliseum until Stan can get his billion-dollar playpen built in Inglewood. Make sure to get your PSL as soon as possible (I hear they are going as high as $150,000 or more apiece)!! Check it out:

Do I sound bitter? Well, it's only because I am. A lot of people have urged me to become a Texans fan but that fat-ass bald-headed fucktard Bob McNair was one of the owners leading the charge to move the Rams as fast as they could so he and his whole fucking team can kiss my ass as well. Actually, if I end up following the NFL at all this upcoming year (I like college ball way more than pro anyway so....), I will likely root for either the Bengals or Raiders since Mike Brown and Mark Davis were (allegedly) the only two owners who voted against the move or for no one at all (more likely the latter to be honest). The chicken-shit owners didn't even have the balls to have an open ballot so even that isn't documented. At the end of the day, I hope Mark Cuban's words ultimately ring prophetic:

I think the NFL is 10 years away from an implosion. When pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. And they’re getting hoggy. When you try to take it too far, people turn the other way. I’m just telling you, when you got a good thing and you get greedy, it always, always, always, always, always turns against you.

Amen to that. This former fan has already turned against the NFL. I'm sure more will join me. I'd more than welcome a competitive league, even a spring league like the old USFL was. Fuck the NFL. In the meantime, enjoy your Rams. ;)

I don't think the league is going to implode any time soon because there are simply too many people who will accept anything as long as it has "NFL" on it. I still like the game, but can't stand the 24/7 coverage because most of the coverage is just noise. I remember when Peyton Manning was coming back from surgery for a season opener. Al Michaels mentioned that he was shocked to see how much weight had lost and how that was going to affect his arm strength. He only mentioned it once and was the only person out of all the networks that did.

Cuban himself said it would take at least a decade. There's plenty of money for those fat cats to stuff away in that time frame. In the interim, I am one fan that's saying goodbye. I don't have a rooting interest anymore, I don't play fantasy football (unless you do it for real money, talk about a waste of fucking time!) and I'm tired of paying over-inflated prices for everything related to a league that is basically a monopoly. If Donald Trump hadn't been such an egotistical idiot and sued the NFL back in the 1980s, the USFL would still be around and doing quite nicely I would think.

Very interesting. Thanks for the heads up, and the analysis.
Yeah I too think the hype and expectations regarding Goff are waaaay over the top. But we shall see.
Naturally out here Kronenke is being heralded as a hero - his decision as simply sound economics. Sounds like that honeymoon might not be a particularly long one, based on your experience.
I prefer the college game too, which was another reason seeing the Rams depart for St. Louis wasn't all that gut wrenching.

You are wrong about it just being Trump. Right from the start it was being talked about from the commentators that the owners are talking about "Full third of the owners expect to play a year or two, file for bankruptcy sue the NFL and get a couple of NFL franchises in the settlement." Didn't happen with the lawsuit and it's near impossible to succeed when some business partner are playing to fail.

OK, point well taken and I certainly didn't mean to insinuate that it was a solo end-run by Trump. As owner of the New Jersey Generals, however, he was one of the ringleaders of the lawsuit and arguably the most high-profile owner in the league. My point is that a spring league was a legitimate idea then and, considering America's seemingly unending thirst for football, it remains so today in my opinion.

Where did you get the quote you posted? Even if it is true that a third of the owners held those sentiments, that's a long way from all of them. They obviously made a serious error in judgment.

I loved the USFL. I was a Tampa Bay Bandits fan back then. Cool unis and a nice logo. In their impatience, the owners committed economic suicide with their lawsuit. As I recall, they had a TV contract with ABC and viewership was pretty substantial.

I made the mistake of wearing a Rams ball cap (my views on fans wearing jerseys is well known) to a Rams/Chefs game the year after they won it all. In KC. Those fans are asshole men. I was at the trough at half time taking a leisurely whizz when a septuagenarian behind be yelled "your team sucks, what the fuck are you doing here?" I turned to make sure it wasn't someone who'd clock me and said, "you know sir, I was going to be an asshole today, but you beat me to it." Deafening roar of laughter from the other guys in there and I returned to my seat to watch the Chefs dominate the Rams.

On the charter bus back to Omaha my friend, who was decked out in jersey, facepaint, foam finger, the works really; anyway, they were working him over real good what with the verbal insults and whatnot. Finally, about an hour outside of Omaha he'd had it. " At least my team cares enough about their players to tell them to buckle up." This was the year after Derrick Thomas was paralyzed in that car wreck. I'm surprised we got off that bus alive. But nobody said a word to either of us the rest of the trip.

And I'm not a Rams fan, either. I just dislike the Chefs that much. It'll be nice to take a weekend off and drive to LA for a game or two this year. And if we do get a team in Vegas, I sincerely hope it's anyone but the Raiders. Rooting for the Raiders (or the Cowboys) is like rooting for AIDS/the zika virus/National Socialism/ Hitler/ Stalin/ Apollo Creed/ Pete Rose's haircut/ Joffrey Baratheon/ Hillary Clinton/ Al Sharpton/ The First Order or fucking Twilight. It's bad I tells ya.
