Question for the board music snobs.

Not bad, but I prefer modernists to impressionists. Give me Mahler and Schoenberg over Debussy and Ravel.

Austrian > French. Especially for choral music.

Sorry, LD, I don't dig twelve-tone. It sounds like "futuristic music" would've sounded like in the 1950's. Besides, how could you not like music that has markings such as postulez en vous-même (make your own demands), du bout de la pensée (on the verge of an idea), ne sortez pas (don't leave), munissez-vous the clairvoyance (arm yourself with perspicacity), or de manier à obtenir un creux (how to achieve absolutely nothing) printed into the music? (Those, plus others, are actual markings on Satie's 3 Gnossiennes) :)

No mention of U2 here? surprising.

Well, I'll say something about U2. Their current stage, "The Claw", is the biggest stage ever built. It's 164' from the deck to the grid, and then it has a 30' spire sticking up above that. The stage build takes a week, and then it takes another 36-42 hours to set up the production itself. We have it at the Oakland Coliseum on 6/16, and I can't wait to get on that. :)

I'm not intending to dis the Frenchies, and much of what you mention above is quite pleasing.

And remember, several things happened with Schoenberg, and not everything he wrote was 12 tone. Listen to Verklärte Nacht, for example. Or even something like his three songs for orchestra.

And Mahler wasn't 12 tone. But listen to the entire universe he creates. And what's more, even though the scope of the work is so magnificent, listen to the pleasing melodies, the small, quiet moments of tranquillity and sublime moments. Listen to the masterful use of the orchestra, and dream about being able to orchestrate like that. Look, for example, at the opening to his fifth:

They've had some monumental stages before, but that's amazing. Hey, it keeps people in the industry working, right? That's a lot of stage people to get that shit together.

Do people here know The Mountain Goats? They're a pretty good band, if they stick with it, they may make an impact.

God fucking damn it, I thought the BeeGees and K.C. and the Sunshine Band were the band everyone is supposed to hate. Fuck!

Wilco and Radiohead are still the two best bands out right now IMHO. I am sure people might pick something different taking the world that itunes has opened or they might still listening to great music back to the pure vinyl days.

Hinder or Nickleback is just not my deal...

Yeah, but they are trying.

I think Sigur Ros should be the band that true music snobs should anoint as the greatest.

Great band, but just not for everyone...

Is Nickelback still the band that everyone is supposed to hate now? Or has Hinder taken their place?

Are Radiohead and Wilco still the greatest musical geniuses of all time? Or have they been replaced?

Just trying to keep up with the trends.

Thanks in advance.
I have never heard any of those bands.

Fuck trends, they're trendy.

Fuck trends, they're trendy.

Both Bands 1985 to present and 1994 to as well, does not make you trendy...

Makes you relevant and still around to sold out crowds on every tour...

Radiohead pretty much sold out Lollapalooza and we are talking the largest crowd I have ever seen in the middle of Grant Park Chicago and ever, Wilco was headliner the same year the day before.
