Personally, I usually get waxed for hygenic reasons. It just makes me feel cleaner. When I actually had a girlfriend several years ago I requested that i be neatly trimmed. I would say not to expect your partner to do something "down there" that you're not willing to do yourself. I hate going down on a guy that doesn't keep his pubic hair in check.
