PS3 vs PS3 Slim

What's the difference?The guy at Future Shop couldn't tell me. Dick.
Is it just smaller? It's the same price as the fat ass PS3. What am I missing here?
The new PS3 slim is smaller and has a 120gb hard drive
The last PS3 models before the Slim came out where bigger and had either a 80gb hard drive or a 160gb hard drive.
A friend of mine told me the thinner one doesn't have a cooling fan so it will overheat after a few hours.
If you're a hardcore gamer go with the bigger one.
yeah the box even says "non-hardcore gamer model,system overheat time 3 hrs." After you been playing for 3 hrs a dude comes on screen to warn you to shut off the ps3 immediately for the 1 hr cool down period so you dont fry the console. This is why ps3 isnt up shits creek and people have accepted that it breaks after 3hrs and 2 seconds. Xbox 360 doesnt have a warning before the RROD. You dont pay attention than dont say the ps3 dude didnt warn you sucker.
If you get the hardcore gamer model,it comes with the liquid nitrogen turbo flux capacitor cooler. You can game all nite long without an overheat. This model has a smaller hardrive to make room for the intercooler. Its also $700 but its packed with a change of liquid nitrogen. Gotta change fluids every 3,000 mil....I mean every 300 hrs of gaming.

LMAO.....what if he was gonna buy a slim this evening and held off cause he wants to avoid a possible hazmat scare with the nitrogen if it spills all over his house? Walked into gamestop and asked the manager "whats the deal with the change of nitrogen in the new slim????" Everyone in the store is looking at each other. LOL
No offence payday......that was just my fucked up way of saying the dudes friend doesnt know too much. I think its safe to say that they designed a machine keeping in mind that these things can possibly overheat?
nice find but if you read into it deep, people are saying that the system gets real hot just like any other console but all of them are gaming long sessions without probs. Also,you stated that they did away with a fan for the slim?well people are helping other folks trouble shoot on there and they are making references to keeping the area of the console clean and open so the cooling fan can do its thing. Some folks even said that the slim is cooler than the fatter model.
I'll have to say,after feeling the back of my fat'ass ps3 it gets very hot. This happens,consoles get hot but Ive never had an issue yet. A totally cool running system doesnt exist on this planet......only in November 5, 1955 the day when marty went back to the future to stop the nitrogen flux capacitor cooling system from ever being created.
had a big ps3 and got the ylod, so went a bought a new slim. more space on hdd and it doesnt ever get hot. i leave it on regulary and never once had it turn off. also the good thing about it is the wireless reciever works about 20%better. im always around 95-100% and before on the big ps3 i would be around 70-80

They took out the "install other os" feature in the slim so if you want to use linux on the ps3, then you are out of luck. But then again, the ps3 was never a great linux machine anyway. And it comes with BraviaSync which allows you to control the console over the HDMI.
It was the same case with the PS2 slim. That was also more likely to overheat due to no cooling fan. Like Neutron66 said, if your a hardcore gamer, stick with the bulkier version. If you play for an hour or two maybe, or use your console for other things more than gaming, then the slim version would probably be better.
