Prostitution should it be legal?

By a show of vote for or against who thinks prostitution should be legal through out the United States?

You know, as much as I'm opposed to it, it's not going to go away, so they might as well tax it and make money off of it and stop fucking the rest of us over. Same goes for pot. :2 cents:

I don't see why it's illegal in the first place. It's certainly not hurting anybody. But hey, if the government's going to outlaw Mary Jane, they might as well outlaw everything they else don't like based on their fundamentalist views.

It's a waste of resources, time and money to violate a person's most basic right which is control over one's own person.

I don't care what you call it, there should be no laws against consenting adults making a financial agreement for sex.

I totally agree. Besides this would enable the authorities to control minors from becoming victims, prevents spread of STDs etc.

I would never pay for sex, but I see no reason whatsoever for it being illegal. People get paid for using their minds, their muscles, their looks, etc. I think if a woman can make money by spreading her legs, then good for her.

Marijuana is also one of those things that has no good reason for being illegal. If the government taxed pot like they do cigs, they would be rolling in the dough. Not to mention the money they would save on the drug enforcement side of things. IMO alcohol is the substance that should be illegal. When someone is drunk, they think they aren't drunk. That's when they do stupid stuff and cause injury or death. When someone is stoned, they sit there saying "dude......... im so stoned right now". About the only injury likely to happen from marijuana is some stoner choking on white castle.

I think one reason they are still illegal though is no one wants to be the bad guy. Prostitution is morally ambiguous and none of the previous or current people in office want to be remembered as THE person to make ____ legal.

IMO, the only people making a big deal to make it legal are people who can only get sex by using prostitutes. Just my opinion.

Why can't it simply be a principled position about the right of the individual to decide for themselves what's in their best interests as long as their actions directly injure others?

I still don't see the precedent justification for this act being the business of the government.

I know the primary reason why it's illegal (which is more about southern culture dictating public policy) but I can't see why there isn't more principled opposition to the ban.

squallumz

knows petras secret: she farted.
ive always argued that it should be legal. for a short answer:

it would keep the girls safe.
keep everyone tested.
keep the guys safe.
dramatically reduce std infections and hiv.
generate much needed tax dollars.
lower crime and drug issues.

legalize it, everyones going to do it, why not create a safe environment?

You can cut a lawn for 20 bucks, why can you stroke a dick?
I think it should be legal. Vegas has the right idea.

What your saying is actually pretty true, but not just about prostitution. If a person is trying to get something changed, it's usually because it would benefit them in some way. It's the whole out of sight out of mind thing. If you don't do drugs or have close friends that do, then You Might not ever ponder the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana. If you don't like driving fast, then You Might not go around trying to convince the higher ups to raise the speed limit.

(BTW I said usually. Personally, I like to ponder all sorts of topics whether they would affect me or not.)

Actually prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas. There are parts of Nevada where brothels are legal but vegas is not one of those parts. It's probably just a short drive though

Agreed but I think it will be awhile if they ever decided to make either or legal. I think if they ever did there would be to many people bitching about how bad it is.

Really? Vegas is illegal? I'm surprised cause EVERYWHERE I went I was offered something:
- baseball style cards of girls from the Mexicans
- hookers in every hotel
- hookers on every corner
- strippers asking you if you want to get a room in back
- rub and tugs
- social clubs

I'm going in a month... I'll have more examples then..

It's called principles. If you believe in the concept of freedoms in a "free" society you don't have to be vested in a particular cause to have a principled position on it.

I agree with you though, most people don't have enough depth to their character to care about anything more than what their personal circumstances are.

If people are willing to do it and people are willing to pay for it. Who's getting hurt?
It's not hurting anyone like drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, guns, violence etc..

I don't see if they made it legal how it would work though, Do you get a receipt after hahah

Should I be able to go out and fuck my girlfriend in the middle of the mall? I mean, it's not hurting anyone.

What about driving down the freeway going 150mph. If I don't hurt anyone or cause any damage, should I still get in trouble?
