Problems with WMP11

I installed Windows Media Player 11 awhile back (btw, I have Windows XP, Service Pack 2) and have recently had trouble with the playing of at least four different files. I had never had a problem like this with previous versions of WMP. However, that might just be a coincidence.

I hope I can describe the problem correctly.

Basically, the files will play (both audio and video) but there is a disconnect between how long the files actually are and how long the player thinks they are, at least for the video. For example, the one file I still have with this problem (I deleted the others because they weren't that great anyway) is about 31 minutes long; but the player acts like it is only 6 or 7 minutes long. The video plays normally but the little moving graph or bar at the bottom of the screen moves faster then it should; and when it reaches its end (as it would with any normal file) the video stops playing (even though there should be much more of it) but the audio doesn't. The audio continues to play, as best I can tell, normally.

It is still possible to fast forward or go to a later part of the scene by left clicking on that graph/bar but the player still acts as I described above: the graph/bar moves faster then it should and when it comes to its end, the video stops playing. Again, the audio continues.

I hope that makes sense. :D

The file I still have is a .mpg codec. I don't know what the others were but I think at least one of them was also .mpg.

Again, I don't know if this is a problem with WMP 11 or it is just a coincidence that this had never happened to me before. I was going to reinstall WMP 10 to see if that would have the same problem but I ran into a little snag with that. I can try more or harder if need be but I thought I would hopefully get some feedback here that this is a problem that can be easily fixed with WMP 11. Or is it more likely that all the files were corrupt?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :) Btw, I didn't contact the technical support for WMP because I figured I'd get a faster response from some of the fine knowledgeable people here. ;)
