How many CDs have you bought lately? How many sports games have you visited lately? How often have you gone to the cinema lately?
Millions of people sing, millions of people play sports, millions of people can act as good as some of the B-actors people actually pay for, so why did you pay for any of those? Because they're actually willing to do the things those millions of people do in front of a large audience. They're doing it to entertain that audience instead of just themselves and it's the entertainment they're being paid for.
The ancient Romans already knew that 2 things were necessary to keep people satisfied. Bread (food) and games (entertainment) So those entertainers provide a vital part needed to keep (a larger) society running. A bit of compensation is no more than decent (of course one could still argue about the amount of compensation, but compared to people in sports, singers and actors pornstars don't earn that much so that discussion applies less to them).
Just answering the question is better... You might actually teach the OP and other people with the same question something.
