Poll : 53% of American think that Republican are too extreme

CNN Poll: Are GOP policies too extreme?

Washington (CNN) - Just over half the public says that the GOP should give up more than the Democrats in any bipartisan solution to the country's problems, according to a new national survey.

And a CNN/ORC International poll also indicates that a slight majority of Americans sees the Republican party's policies and views as too extreme, a first for the GOP, and fewer than a third say they trust congressional Republicans more than President Barack Obama to deal with the major issues facing the nation.

The poll's Thursday release comes less than two weeks before the country faces automatic tax increases on nearly all Americans, as well as deep federal spending cuts, if no deal is struck to avert the country from falling off the fiscal cliff at the end of the year.

According to the survey, 53% say the GOP should compromise more, with 41% saying the Democratic Party should give up more of the proposals it supports[/B] to develop bipartisan solutions.

"That's due in part to the fact that the Republican brand is not doing all that well," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

53% of those surveyed say they view the policies of the GOP as too extreme, up 17 points from two years ago. Only 37% say they view the polices of the Democratic Party as too extreme.

It probably doesn't help that House Speaker John Boehner, who's leading GOP fiscal cliff negotiations with the president, is held in fairly low regard, particularly in comparison to Obama. According to the poll, 34% of the public approves of how the top Republican in the House handling his job. By contrast, the president's approval rating stands at 52%.

"Small wonder that nearly half say they have more confidence in President Obama than in the congressional Republicans and that nearly half (48%) would blame the GOP if the fiscal cliff occurs," adds Holland.

37% percent said they would blame the president more, with 11% saying they would point fingers at both sides equally if no agreement is struck to avert falling off the fiscal cliff.

The survey also indicates that seven in ten Americans continue to think that the fiscal cliff will cause a crisis or major problems for the country if a deal is not reached.

The poll's release comes one day after Obama and Boehner publicly butted heads, with the president saying Republicans were focused too much on besting him personally instead of thinking about what's best for the country. And Boehner said Obama had yet to make a proposal offering his promised approach of balance between increased revenue and spending cuts.

The survey's release also comes hours before the Republican led House is expected to vote on Boehner's backup tax plan that limits tax hikes to income above $1 million. While a concession from his original opposition to any kind of increase in tax rates, the Boehner plan sets a significantly higher threshold for a rate hike than the $400,000 level sought by Obama.

One piece of good news for the Republicans in the survey: Most Americans say that it's good for the country that the GOP controls the House, an indication that the public would not like to see the Democrats with unchecked power in Washington.

The CNN poll was conducted by ORC International December 17-18, with 620 adults nationwide questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus four percentage points.
People are fed up with Republicans extrem policies, obstructionism and filibustering. People want the Republicans to work with the president, not against him.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
That's because there are too many people in charge, and whining to those that are in charge, that care too much about hugging each other, and saying sorry, instead of reminding everyone, they have a responsibility to themselves, and society, and respect, beyond the basic human right, to be treated as a human is earned, not given.

Why save the world, when you can rule it?

Can we hear a more positive sentiment, like that which was expressed below your post?
I just think something more constructive would be better than simply saying "But we're only slightly worse than them!"

Errr... If you mean that the people must earn the respect of the politicians, then may I remind you that the people employ the politicians; they work for you?

If you didn't mean that then I apologise, please ignore me.

John Kerry: Democrats are Stupid

Continuing the trend, started by Al Gore, the Democratic Party and former presidential candidate, John Kerry, has called their constituents stupid. Funny thing is that their constituents will probably agree with their claims.

Election year 2000: Following the presidential election, Democratic leadership claimed that their votes were not counted and demanded recounts. The reasoning? The butterfly ballots were too confusing and they voted for the wrong guy accidentally.

Results: Registered Democrats agreed with the charges, verifying that they were too stupid to vote in the first place.

Oddity: This was the first time that the butterfly ballots were ever "too difficult" to figure out. Further, only Democrats were too stupid to figure out how to use the butterfly ballots.

Election year 2004: Following the results of the presidential election, Democratic leadership and pundits called Middle America, and everyone who voted for Bush, stupid. Activists cited voter intimidation as the reason Bush won.

And now, several months later, Democratic leadership is calling their constituents stupid.

New Charges: John Kerry and his supporters have charged that Republican supporters duped Democratic voters into not voting.

According to Kerry and company, Democratic voters received leaflets claiming that Republicans were to go to the polls on Tuesday and that Democrats were to go to the polls on Wednesday.

Unsatisfied with that charge, they claimed that Democrats received calls telling them that they were not allowed to vote if they had ever gotten a parking ticket.

So far as I know, there has been no reaction from Democratic constituents to this charge. But, they did admit to being too stupid to cast votes before, it is a cinch they will do so again.

John Kerry, be proud of your supporters and their massively high IQ's.

Actually the opposite, they should be earning ours. It also means people in general, People tend they can do as they please, and it should be respected, because they have the right...but never think how their action may disrespect the other persons rights. Now it doesn't really mater what political, or religious affiliation you may have...you'll find these types in EVERY culture. HOWEVER..........the left wing, tree hugging, pussified, touchy, feely, lets all hug crowd seems to have perfected that sort of mentality.

I couldn't ignore you, if you were perma banned.

Before the GOP became a giant circle jerk for wingnuts, conspiracy theorists (birthers), religious zealots and such, it had a good number of really intelligent people, who would and could express a broad range of ideas, on a broad range of topics. Then the Moral Majority types and the neocons showed up and it's slowly turned into the sad sack of shit that it is now. It's become a group-think herd of lemmings, where if you don't follow the cultist chants of the leaders, they'll call you a RINO and chase you away. Before these half-wit teabaggers showed up, you still had some moderate Republicans in the House and Senate on social and economic issues. But now, that lowlife, low brow, teabagging rabble has pretty much "primaried" them out of existence.

Of course 53% think the GOP has become too extreme - I'm amazed that it's not even higher. You've got teabaggers, pretending to be fiscally responsible conservatives, who think it's a good idea for the United States to default on its debts... then you find out that these a-holes haven't paid their child support or property taxes in forever. What's worse is they run for office as fiscal conservatives (or "physical", as Sarah P@lin spells it - gosh, she's a special kind of retarded!). Then you've got these supposed men of God, who say how the government needs to get smaller and needs to stay out of people's lives... then they propose a bill to take control of what you do and who you do it with - while they have their mistress, her husband and her kid on the freakin' payroll! :hairpull:

Both parties are corrupt to the teeth. Both parties are controlled by power mad bastards. And both parties have their fair share of hypocrites and dirt bags. I would eat a crap sandwich on wheat bread before I'd ever become a member of either party. But it's seemed to me for several years that the GOP has a knack for attracting and fostering some of the dumbest, most ignorant shit that I've ever heard of! Did ya know that when a woman (really) gets raped, her body has this secret mechanism that keeps her from getting pregnant? Oh yeah! It's true. Just look it up... on GOP.com

It's just too bad that the decent people who have been Republicans for a long time or like (for whatever reason :dunno:) identifying with that, or any party, have to stomach the stupid shit that's coming out of the GOP these days. A lot of my friends assume (or assumed... pre-Palin) that I was a Republican. I am a republican, with the small "r"... just like I am or try to be a libertarian, with the small "l". :yesyes:

SPQA!!!

From a left-wing source. Shocker.

Considering how accurate the right wing sources were on calling the election, there's probably more validity to this one than any that Faux News would put out.

I'm just sayin'... :D
