picture saving help

ok guys, as you lot are the most computer literate people i have had the pleasure (creep) of meeting, i was wondering if any of you can help me. i have a problem saving pictures on my laptop. i right click on a pic and the box that pops up says that i can save the pic in ART or BITMAP. neither of these options will save the pics so that i can view them again. only the JPG option will do that. how can i get it back onto the jpg option. it used to be an option but it has disappeared.

also, while i'm here, i have recently changed my modem from braodband adsl to a lan router that feeds my pc by lan and my laptop by wireless. trouble is my connection speed has slowed down to near impossible to live with slowness. i have tried all i know (not much) and cant get it to speed up. the modem says its speed is 54.0 mps and the wireless connection is excellent but its as slow as a 3 legged dog. i dont wanna have to go back to adsl cos this router thing cost me £80. if anyone can help i will be eternally grateful.

Sound like your image type might have associated itself with another program. (Sometimes happens).
Right click the picture, and choose properties. Look for 'opens with', and see what program it's linked to.
If it's not your image editor, click 'change' and choose it from the list that comes up. Click on OK and problem should be solved.

As to the wireless problem - could be a matter of distance. And the signal can be affected by brick walls (as opposed to stud walls).
Generally, looking at reviews, these wireless routers work best within about 10 metres of the PC. After that, the signal gets weaker.
But you can buy 'boosters' for your wireless signal, did see one article that showed you how to make one from a tin can.

Hope that helps :wave2:

thanks for your help and advice with the piccy saving dinalt. i'll give it a go in a mo. as for the speed issue, its slow when im sat next to the router. also the pc thats fed by the lan cable is slow as well as the wireless laptop. sorry i should have pointed that out in my first post
