I don't get the David Ortiz selection. World Series aside he pretty much had a standard very good year, but nothing historically great. How many people in MLB were better than him this year?

Maybe if I actually considered auto racing a sport, which I don't, or considered racecar drivers athletes, which I don't, I could maybe see giving it to Jimmy Johnson this year. Other than that I don't see anybody head and shoulders above Peyton.

I can see why they gave it to Peyton given he leads one of the best offences the NFL has ever seen, but SOTY suggests that you did something extraordinary and that's the problem. Peyton's had a great year, but that one iconic moment which places him above all other athletes? He hasn't had it. Crosby is another player who had a great year, but not an extraordinary one. Lebron won MVP and a NBA championship, so if anything I would agree that he would deserve it more than anyone else.
