Naturalists have been watching chimps use tools for ages. I tell 'ya...apes will eventually be our masters!

Did they see any black monoliths around?

Yes, but their reign will be short-lived. The dodos will return soon afterwards in their massive spaceships and take their rightful place as masters of this world back.

Yes I thought they were vegetarians. But maybe it's that rare occasion when they eat meat or fish. It does say that many of these Orangutan have been reintroduced into the wild so maybe they acquired a taste for meat/fish from their human captors:dunno:

Fruit makes up 65% of the orangutan diet. Fruits with sugary or fatty pulp are favored. Lowland Dipterocarp forests are preferred by orangutans because of their high fruit abundance, the same forests that provide excellent timber for the logging industry and good soil conditions for palm oil plantations. The fruit of fig trees are also commonly eaten since it is easy to both harvest and digest. Bornean orangutans are recorded to consume at least 317 different food items and include: young leaves, shoots, seeds and bark. Insects, honey and bird eggs are also included.[11] [12]

Orangutans are highly opportunistic foragers with the composition of their diet varying markedly from month to month.[13] Bark as a source of nourishment is only consumed as a last resort in times of food scarcity, fruits always being the preferred choice.

Your not one of the "the world is only 6000 years old" flock are you Will?

I believe the earth has been around a bit longer than six thousand years.

I'm not sure how old, but no one really knows, since none of us were around at the time. ;)

Not saying that this kind of thing is impossible, but does the photo look dodgy to anyone else?

I can't quite put my finger on it, it might be the light sourcing or depth of field.. almost as though the orangutan has been added to the picture..

So I guess Planet of the Apes is actually coming true! Now we need to blow it all up! Damn us!! DAMN US ALL TO HEEELLL!!

The extraordinary image, a world exclusive, was taken in Borneo on the island of Kaja, where apes are rehabilitated into the wild after being rescued from zoos, private homes or even butchers' shops.

First of all, look at the straightness of the fishing stick. It was probably stolen from or given by the local fishermen & yes, it's pretty well known that apes can copy the behaviour shown by others. Trained chimps are even able to ask simple questions with the help of a (simple) computer or to make 'paintings'. Of course we're talking about Orangutans & not about chimps, but if they were trained in a similar matter, they'd be able to do the same.

I'm not trying to say that we're above/better than that, because most of us also copy behaviour shown to us by others (parents, teachers, friends, etc) & never grow above that.

I'm not saying that's it's not a big achievement either, but it'd be much more of an achievement if the orangutan had discovered something like this all by himself, just like certain tribes of chimps in Africa have discovered how to crack a nutshell with two stones (1 serving as a means to keep the nut in it's place & as a hard underground (read anvil) and the other stone as a hammer) all by themselves.

Anyway, if there'd be a race chimps vs orangutans the chimps would still win imho.

Doomed. We are all doomed. This is indeed the beginning of the end.

I can see the next headline; "Orangutan attempts to hunt humans with Assault rifle"

Doomed I tell you...
