OMG, POOR CASTER.....She is confirmed to be intersexed!

Can you imagine growing up thinking you are a biological female, and then discovering you have testes inside you???? Or maybe you grow up thinking you are biological male, but discover you have ovaries?? :(:(

I am so sad for this poor girl, this should have never been made public like this, especially in world that is so discriminating towards gender/sex ambiguity. I wonder how her people will treat her now??

It's very sad indeed, but I don't blame the IAAF or her. In my eyes the fault lies with the South African athletics organisation. THEY should have done the tests BEFORE they sent her to an international event like the world championship athletics.

The fact remains that she had an unfair advantage to the other participating women and therefore the South African athletics organisation should have checked and not sent her. They could/should have made up an excuse so that she couldn't go. They know what's acceptable and not acceptable in South Africa and could have lied if they had to.

The fact that the parents are reacting the way they are is extremely sad. Whether it's a boy, a girl or as far as I'm concerned a little green creature with mandibles, it's still your child.

Maybe the IAAF could have lied as well, but they don't know South Africa as well as the local organisafion does nor would they have been able to come up with a decent lie since international press is following this closely & if her medal were suddenly taken away from her the press would ask questions.

^^ If she's a confirmed intersexual she won't be allowed to compete against girls. On the other hand is she not fast enough compete with the boys. So the answer has to be: no!

Maybe they could organize a special South African Championship with Caster running against amputee Oscar Pistorius?

I say she ought to be able to keep any medals up to this point.

There was no dishonesty, and at least on the outside she's, technically, female, so let it be...

The media sucks whale piss.

According to some fundies, God only creates male and female, and let it be known that he makes no mistakes. But apperently he is old now and so tired of making new babies that sometimes he gets it confused, hence he puts testes and a vagina in the same person. Should they marry a woman or a man? Something for the religious to think about...

I hope people start apologizing to all the others that dare had the audacity to question Caster's gender. It looks like they had a legitimate gripe all along.

I know one thing. If I was the second place person I would be pissed off if Caster was allowed to keep either the medals or the recorded time that was gotten because she cheated.

She didn't cheat, she didn't know she was intersexed. Coming from a small poor town like she did, I assume that like everybody else there, since she was born with a vagina she was raised as girl and no questions about it. (So much for those who think your gender and sexuality lies on whether you were born with a penis or a vagina )

This problem can be easily fixed....just remove the testes and she wont have the advantage over other girls. In this cases it is important to remove the testes, because they can become cancerous. Her gender identification is female as well, so it makes no sense for her to keep those that will only masculinize her further.:2 cents:

Not really, sadly. Testosteron isn't the only thing that makes men stronger & faster than women. It's also the way muscles are built. The amount of muscle fibers per muscle in men is larger than in women, which give the male more strength & speed.

A trained woman is as fast or faster than an untrained or partially trained man, but if she goes up against a fully trained guy she generally doesn't stand a chance.

She didn't cheat, because in my eyes cheating is purposely rigging a game or competition. This she didn't do, but I wouldn't let her compete with other women again unless it can be proven that she has female muscles, which is also a possibility, in which case removing the testes would indeed be sufficient....

Umm...testosterone is exactly what helps this muscles become larger and more fibrous in men and women, and is pretty much responsible for most sexual characteristics in men. Without it, a lot of muscle tone is loss. An untrained man or partially trained man still have normal levels of testosterone, not castrate or female levels. The Olympics have already acknowleged that after at least two years of not having male levels of testosterone, the body no longer has an advantage over other females.

Let's say it takes a year before she has the operation, then she has to wait 2 years before the amount of muscle fibers is lowered to an acceptable level. This means she'll automatically miss the 2011 championship & she might not be able to compete in the 2013 championship either, as one has to qualify before that time. So it'll probably be 2015 before she can compete again.

So for a large part of her athletics carreer it still won't make a difference.

Besides that, testosterone makes the muscle fibers become larger & repair faster, but I haven't been able to find an article on the amount of muscle fibers being affected by testosterone yet.
