Ohio Democrat Seeks To Limit Impotence Access For Men

Posted by: Bridgette P. LaVictoire on March 2, 2012.

The Ohio Statehouse, Columbus
Cleveland, Ohio Democratic State Senator Nina Turner has decided to take an unusual step when it comes to the debate over female reproductive issues. So, Turner has decided to take a step to protect men from the risks associated with PDE-5 inhibitors, and possibly other drugs which inhibit the loss of blood flowing to the penis.

Some of these drugs come with warning about four hour erections.

Turner has introduced a bill which is aimed at having men get second opinions with regards to the drugs. She stated that “The men in our lives, including members of the General Assembly, generously devote time to fundamental female reproductive issues—the least we can do is return the favor. It is crucial that we take the appropriate steps to shelter vulnerable men from the potential side effects of these drugs.”

The bill follows the debate in the US Senate yesterday on the Blunt Amendment, which went down in flames. It also comes in the middle of the controversy of the US House Committee excluding Sandra Fluke from the debate, and took testimony only from men who were directly opposed to the contraception mandate from the Obama Administration.

According to the Dispatch:

Turner said her bill would document that the symptoms of impotence are not psychological in nature, and “would guide men to make the right decision for their bodies.” Physicians would be required to obtain a second opinion from a psychological professional to verify that a patient has a true medical malady before the medication could be prescribed.
Turner has said “By implementing more intensive screenings before prescribing the medication and requiring outpatient educational services, we can do more to prevent the potential side effects linked to PDE-5 inhibitors. We must advocate for the traditional family, protect the sanctity of procreation, and ensure that all men using PDE-5 inhibitors are healthy, stable, and educated about their options – including celibacy as a viable life choice. This legislation will do just that.”

How thoughtful returning the favor and all...

Viagra Pills Would Need Sex Therapist’s Approval in Ohio Bill
By Mark Niquette on March 07, 2012 Tweet Facebook LinkedIn Google Plus 23 Comments

If women considering abortions must face government-mandated examinations, it’s only fair that men who want drugs such as Viagra to treat impotence get the same treatment, an Ohio (STOOH1) lawmaker says.

State Senator Nina Turner, a Cleveland Democrat, has introduced a bill to require that physicians take specific actions before prescribing such drugs, including giving a cardiac stress test and making a referral to a sex therapist for confirmation that “the patient’s symptoms are not solely attributable to one or more psychological conditions.”

Full Story (From Bloomberg)

Does this lady have friends in the sex therapist business?

Nina Turner is a JOKE in these parts. Must be up for re-erection, er, re-election that's why she is making her name known. Worthless use of resources and waste of time. She should be using her political influences to get Cleveland the other half of our interstate bridge, lakefront development, vacant downtown buildings occupied, trash cleaned-up, water dept. scandals investigated, etc. Look, I just listed half a dozen MORE IMPORTANT things she should be working on other than VIAGRA!!!!! Why does she not do her job instead of promoting such asinine ideas?

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
Nina Turner  Of course, she is black. (Like that liberals?)

She needs to lose re-election then fade away and move to another country.

Fuckin Bitch....

She's brilliant, make it more difficult and expensive to get pecker pills....And people wonder why healthcare is so expensive....it's because of people like this fuckin bitch.

Since some have completely missed the point of the bill, let Turner explain it herself

Dear Concerned Citizen,

Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts with me and for expressing your concern for these important women’s health issues. As we all know, this struggle is about equality: whether men and women should be given equal footing when it comes to making important healthcare decisions, and whether they should have equal access to the highest-quality health services our country has to offer. More importantly, this is about a woman’s right to choose. Reproductive decisions are best made by a woman and her doctor, and we must respect their ability to make these choices. Government has no place inside a woman’s womb.

This war on reproductive rights is an insult to women everywhere. It demonstrates that those waging it view women only as vessels of life—not as the intelligent and capable individuals that they are. Taking away the right to control one’s own destiny is not only un-American, it flies in the face of the ideals of independence and self-determination on which our nation was founded.

S.B. 307 is a serious bill, and the side effects of PDE-5 inhibitors are real. As a nation of equals, we must care just as much about men's health as we do women's health, and this is why we must take strong steps to protect against the harmful side effects of medications used to treat symptoms of male impotence, such as priapism, hearing loss, and vision loss. Such medications should be considered with the utmost concern and caution. These medications can be seriously detrimental to men with heart problems, including heart pain (angina), heart failure, abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias), high or low blood pressure, a history of stroke within the last six months, eye problems such as retinitis pigmentosa, sickle cell anemia, or leukemia.

Nobody laughs when legislators throughout the country introduce legislation that aggressively mandates government regulation of women's health decisions, and no one questions those who introduce these oppressive measures. This is no laughing matter. Women are being disregarded and disrespected by lawmakers across the nation. We must heed the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." If women today, it will be another group tomorrow.

Thank you for being champions in the fight; the fight for our foremothers, for ourselves, and for our daughters. Spread this far and wide.

All the Best,

NINA TURNER Minority Whip Ohio Senate--25th District 1

I don't need a legislator to worry about me. I have a doctor, who has reviewed 3 different medicines with me, explained side effects, gave me sample packs and followed up 2 months later to make sure I was doing well.

Requiring me to get signed testaments of my condition and sending me to sex therapist only add time and cost to a process that is very simple.

Maybe it's the libertarian in me, but I don't want a fuckin legislator involved in the process at all.

So you are outraged when it's about you, you should be outraged when the same thing is happening to woman all across the country - which is the reason why this legislation was introduced in the first place.

???????

How are the two similar? Also, don't assume that I'm in favor of legislating anything for women either. Problem is, my opinion on that doesn't matter because I'm a guy.

I want the government out of all of it....not just when it's about me.

Why do you think Turner introduced this legislation, it was clearly in response to the events that are happening across different state legislatures.

OK...so her logic is...it's wrong to treat women like this, so lets double down and do it to the guys too....It doesn't make sense......What will this accomplish?

I honestly try to avoid political conversations....I'm a libertarian and that really pisses people off most of the time.....But this one pissed me off because I am from Ohio and I really do not want these idiots telling me I have to see a sex therapist for a medical condition.

I respect the fact that you are of the opinion that she is trying to help, I just don't agree.

It does make sense if you think about it, it's supposed to point out the hypocrisy and the discrimination woman are facing all across the country. It seems you are not aware of what's going on, bills against woman's reproductive rights are at record high across the country and the only way to make men notice is to introduce bills like the above.

We just disagree...

I don't live under a rock...I am aware of the issues under debate...I am just of the very strong opinion that what this woman is doing will accomplish nothing...

Now I think I'll go watch some Nicole Aniston flix.....she always puts me in a good mood....
